I also spent some time in L&D yesterday... (long story)

During the middle of the night on Thursday/Friday I couldn't sleep. I had a pain in my stomach and I figured it was from all of the tossing and turning and because I couldn't get in a comfortable position. Friday morning I woke up and went to work. I still had a sharp pain in my stomach on and off. I "tried" to take it easy at work and I drank tons of water... but as the day went on it got worse and worse. Around 1 pm I decided it was getting to intense. I took my work laptop and ppw and went home to work from the couch. Around 2pm I decided to call my midwife's office. The pains were about every 10 minutes, starting near my belly button and shooting downwards. And my belly felt really tight at the same time. The pain was more severe on the right side of my belly, so I wasn't sure if these were contractions or not. The midwife's office told me to go straight to L&D.
While in L&D I got hooked up to the monitors and I was having contractions every 3-4 minutes Chat Icon The fetal fibronectin test came back negative and my cervix was closed. They thought it could be from dehydration, but I ALWAYS drink above the reccomended amt of water and this day I drank extra. My urine sample was clear too. But they gave me a bag of IV Fluids anyway. About 4 hours later, I got sent home. I was still having tightening ever 15 minutes or so, but they pain stopped. So far today I don't feel anything. They told me I probably overdid it this week (which is highly likely, I have been on my feet running around like crazy at work, not even stopping for a lunch break) so I am supossed to rest this weekend and try to take it easier at work.
So that is my long story about my day yesterday. It was a scary experience... I really expected them to tell me I was worrying for no reason and I was shocked to see I was really having contractions 3-4 mins apart!!!

Overdoing it can be a clear reason! You need to be very careful that you don't do too much. EVen though you feel great while you're getting stuff done, you're causing your body stress...and that's not good for the baby.
You really really need to take it easy this weekend, and from now on!

Re: I also spent some time in L&D yesterday... (long story)

I'm glad to hear everything is o.k...
I had the same thing happen to me at the end of my dd's pregnancy. Around the same time as you. I would end up at L&D, they would tell me I was dehydrated and give me IV. It made no sense, I would drink tons of water! My urine would be almost clear, a sign I was hydrated. My bloodwork would show no signs of dehydration. One dr. said in some moms the water doesn't reach the uterus as well as other mothers. I really had to take it easy at the end of my pregnancy and I never knew exactly why I kept having early contractions as well.

I was in L&D thursday night too because Chat Icon wasn't moving at all so we went to get monitored and for some IV fluids. So scary but glad we went.

I'm so glad you're ok now:) Try to take it easy. Maybe a few days off from work might be in order!
