I am sick & EBF...med advice?
Am I allowed to take any over the counter meds? Everything says to contact a helath professional if you are BF. Do I contact my OB/GYN or Peditarician?
I am just so congested & have a sore throat! I know it is ok to BF - I just want to get better...thanks!

To be honest, I don't remember what you can and can't take. I did not take anything when I was BFing. If you really aren't feeling well, I would definitely call your OB

i am pretty sure zyrtec and benedryl are safe, i have taken both while bf. actually i am on zyrtec and an antibiotic right now for a sinus infection.

I have only ever taken tylenol...there are a bunch of meds that are ok though. My OB gave me a list once, but it's buried somewhere. feel better!

I would check with your doctor - both my ped and my OB only allow for tylenol - I have bad allergies and was told NOT to take those meds that someone listed above.
I think Claritin and zyrtec are class B drugs but they are excreted into the breast milk (you can check either kellymom or safefetus.com - which gives you lists of what are safe when pregnant and what is excreted into the breast milk).

I had a sore throat and cold last week and I took tylenol. I was given the okay to take Mucinex, but I held off and drank tea with honey and lemon instead. Someone mentioned kellymom.com and they have a list of drugs you can take with the safety ratings. Whenever I have a drug question, I usually ask DD's pediatrician to look it up in Hale's book for me.
