I am so sick of hearing about this SWINE flu....
My DH had it last week. He had a very high fever & the chills and was home & in bed for 2 1/2 days. I didn't go in a state of panic, I didn't leave my house for a few days because he was home in bed with it.
Both me & my son didn't get it at all.
According to my DH... It wasn't as bad as he thought he would be.
Hes perfectly fine now....
I know it affects everyone differently, but honestly, I am so sick of hearing about this already. I dont intend to start drama, but I think the media is pumping this up wayyyy more than it really is...

Re: I am so sick of hearing about this SWINE flu....
I hear you...its all you hear about.
But I had it last year and was out of work for 2 weeks. It was horrible. Mine turned into bronchitis, then a bruised rib and after that, walking pneumonia. It was NOT fun. Even after I was deemed "ok" by the doctor, I had a TERRIBLE cough for a good month and a half. In total I was probably "sick" for 2 months.
Like you said, it affects everyone differently. But yes, the scare the media gives everyone is ridiculous.

Re: I am so sick of hearing about this SWINE flu....
I think its just like any other strain of the flu that got a lot of media attention.
That being said I am still scared of what might happen to me if I get it when I am pregnant (currently ttc'ing) I will be on steroids during my pregnancy so that doubles my risk of getting it. So - I am not sick of hearing about it. Its still a virus that scares me.

Re: I am so sick of hearing about this SWINE flu....
To be fair, I think the concern is really for people who contract it that either have pre-existing medical conditions or are a higher-risk group (such as babies and pregnant women).
That being said, I agree that most people who contract H1N1 will be fine, and it will behave as any regular flu would. I am glad your DH is better and you and your DS didn't get it!

I agree. This morning on the news they were talking about taking kids to see Santa and H1N1. I couldn't believe it.

Re: I am so sick of hearing about this SWINE flu....
i put a post on parenting, my sister in law and my 7 year old niece had it last week and were only down for four days and with a very mild fever. Many children were sick at their school all with the same thing, a regular flu like symptoms. Nothing major.
Honestly I think its blown out of proportion, just like any flu i think people who have underlying issues, pregnant, infants and old should have concerns. People die from the flu (regular) every year that are healthy, the swine flu does have a hirer rate of death in healthy people but to my understanding not by much.

I think the scary thing is that people don't know how their bodies are going to react to the virus - some people like your DH are fine; some healthy people end up with serious complications, even death. 35 children died last week b/c of H1N1. I would rather the media be talking it up more than less. I think it is a good thing b/c it is encouraging more people to get vaccinations and the real way vaccinations work is through "herd immunity". Vaccinations don't really work b/c one person gets them, but b/c large groups of people get them and slow the passage of the virus. If the "hyped" media encouraged increased vaccination, and in turn, less spread of the virus, I am all for it.

Re: I am so sick of hearing about this SWINE flu....
I think people are not taking this seriously.
Like a poster hearing a mom at the PED's office telling another mom to tell the school he has bronchitis and not tell he has the swine flu.
This is why this is spreading. Dismissing the possible gravity of some people who will get sick.

You are right- you really can't know for sure how you are going to react to the virus. I have asthma and have been admitted to the hospital more than once. I have a 2 year old, and while there are no signs that she will have asthma, I am NOT going to take a chance on any illness that could be fatal for either of us. Would I be ok if I got sick? Would my DD? Most likely. But why take a chance?
I had ten kids out sick in the spring. I am sure it didn't help that the same student kept coming to school (3 times) and had to be sent home because he was still coughing and feverish.
