I am trying to keep things in perspective...

...I know there are worse problems in the world than this, but I am seriously running out of songs in my baby repetoire as is DH.

He started singing "Celebration" by Kool and the Gang while changing Abby's diaper and gets to this part...

It's time, to come together
It's up to you
What's your pleasure?
Everyone around the world
POOP ON!!!

Someone PLEASE call Diane Warren to drum up some ideas for us or our poor child may grow up scarred for life!

Re: I am trying to keep things in perspective...

Wish I could hum the tune for my little ditty when Ryan is backed up:

Get that poopie out
Get that poopie out
OH get that poopie Ouuuuuttttt

Or my aunt would use Queen's Bicycle when bicycling her son's legs to help with gas

I've also done:
Oh my darlin'
Oh my darlin'
Oh my darlin baby boy
You were born on a Thursday
On my darlin baby boy

(tune of Clementine)

I have a lot of interesting and warped versions of songs Chat Icon

Re: I am trying to keep things in perspective...

Oh, I have a few songs, and I sometimes change the words to suit the needs of a particular day.

While giving a bath, sing Ms. Lucy Had a Baby. If you forget the words, it's easy to make up your own.

Another song I sing is to the tune of, "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands." sing,"If there's poopy in your diaper hold your nose."

Music Together gave me some good ideas but I usually stick to the real words with those.

My memory for really old rap music sometimes comes in handy.

Re: I am trying to keep things in perspective...

I just rhyme off the top of my head. So I just sing whatever words pop into my head. It's usually something crazy like:

My little girl is stinky
my little girl made a mess
now it's time for mommy to clean it
and then maybe she'll get some rest..

REALLY BAD, I know. But she likes it. She thinks I'm a rock star. Chat Icon Chat Icon

We are FOREVER singing in our house (its kind of a necessity when Mommy is a music therapist LOL) and my DS loves If All the Raindrops. We also always sing: Itsy Bitsy Spider, Skidamerinky Dinky Dink (Sp?!?!)Open Shut Them and We're Going To Kentucky. Well I do the singing and DS and DH do the listening Chat Icon

Re: I am trying to keep things in perspective...

I have no idea where this came from, but my old standby when DS was a newborn was the theme song from the old Gary Shandling Show. I guess with sleep deprivation in full swing, I could remember those simple words...

"This is the theme to Gary's show,
the theme to Gary's show.
Gary called me up and asked if I would write his theme song...."

bizarre, I know!

Re: I am trying to keep things in perspective...

I make up words to songs I already know. For example, when she was only eating cereal, I'd sing to Olivia Newton John's Let's Get Physical:

Who wants some cereal? Cereal?
Who wants some cereaaaaaal? Who wants some cereal, let me hear your belly talk, belly talk....etc.Chat Icon

I thought that I was the only one making up poopy and eating songs....I feel so much better to know that there are more of us.

one of Marianna's favs is to the tune of "my name is Luka"

My name is baby anna, I live in the nusery. I think you've seen me before.
If you hear something late at night, some kind of toot, some kind of fluff...just don't ask me what it was, just don't ask me what it was.

another verse is...
If you smell something late at night. some kind of poop, some kind of stinky, just don't ask me what it was, just don't ask me what it was

Re: I am trying to keep things in perspective...

My personal adaptations:

- Shake your bootie:

shake shake shake
shake shake shake
Shake your milkie

(when we switched from BF to formula).

DS lovedit.

- Twinkle twinkle Little Star is now:

tickle tickle little stars (I hold puffs and switch to tickles)

I also used to make up songs for DS when he was colicky.

Go away little gas
We don't like you
We don't want you
Go away little gas

Re: I am trying to keep things in perspective...

i've done two songs

one is "love grows where my deborah rose goes" - sung to the tune of "love grows where my rosemary goes"

the second is a little known sesame street song. meaghan loves to grunt and grrr. There was a monster on Sesame Street called "Frazzle"

so we sing this to her, because this is the sound she makes LOL

Ben's favorite is set to "On the Good Ship Lollipop"

I just changed the words to include his name. I sing this to him after his bath or when I'm changing his diaper. He laughs every time. Although that may just be because of my singing

He also likes Itsy Bitsy Spider, You Are My Sunshine, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, and a few others.

Now that I have all of your songs in my head, I can't think of my own! But I can tell you that I take ANY song that's in my head and just make up words to it. Chat Icon I think it's a parenting necessity. And what's worse is that I sing them even when she's not around. Chat Icon

Re: I am trying to keep things in perspective...

We sing tons of different songs for DD, Music Together helped build our repertoire tremendously but even before that here's what we sang.

Row Row Row Your Boat
Mary Had a Little Lamb
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
The Alphabet Song
A Hunting We Will Go
A Peanut Sat on Railroad Track
Six Little Ducks
Are You Sleeping
Baa Baa Black Sheep
I'm a Little Teapot
Hush Little Baby (a few versions)
Rock-a-bye Baby
Baby Bumble Bee
The Itsy Bitsy Spider
Peas Porridge Hot
Old MacDonald - we name everything on the farm from the cows down to the flies, and even the owl that lives in the barn and the frog that lives in the pond.

There are others I just can't think of now. We googled "children song lyrics" to get ideas. We also recite nursery rhymes for her.

Re: I am trying to keep things in perspective...

During diaper changes DH sings

"When it's time to change, you've got to rearrange.

Shanana nananana
Shanananana"

It's the song that the Brady kids sang when Peter's voice was changing.

I also sing
"You are my sunshine"
"Home on the range"
"Oh my darling (Clementine)"

and some songs in Spanish.
