"I can't believe you're not finding out!"
Why is it that because it is now the norm to find out what your having, just because DH and I want to be surprised on the DAY our child is born, we get treated like freaks?
I was actually annoyed by one of DH's friends who couldn't understand why we didn't want to know.
I said "there are so few good surprises in life, we just want to wait."
His response: "Well, it will be a surprise the day you find out, so why WOULDN'T you want to know?"
I was thinking in my head and wanted to say so badly: "When you and I have a child together, then I"ll think about finding out the sex."
I have no problem with people wanting to find out, to each his own, but why do I have to defend MY position?
Sorry for the vent, but it's getting really annoying. Just because we have the technology to find out, doesn't mean we all have to use it.
God forbid I paint my child's room YELLOW instead of blue or pink.
Anyone else?

Re: "I can't believe you're not finding out!"
In the beginning, we didn't want to find out and I used to get that reaction. Then, I realized I just had to because I have no patience and I couldn't stand the suspense....Stick to your guns, you won't regret it!

Awww sorry. Its terrible you should be made to feel this way. I felt like I was getting the opposite treatment at first because it is so un-traditional to find out. Oh well... they are OUR babies.

Friends of ours have been hearing this for 9 months....she is due the 1st week of June. And they both get annoyed with peoples comments.
Definitely have a good comeback because you will be hearing this till you deliver.

Re: "I can't believe you're not finding out!"
Ummmmmm do what you want. Who cares what other peopel think. Most people said we made a good decision by not finding out, well most older generation people. But younger people like my cousins, and friends were against it. But it doesnt bother me at all what they think because its "our" baby and not theirs so who cares.

We found out but that was OUR choice. Not finding out is YOUR choice.
Nobody should judge why you want to know or not know.

You should have said it!!
I personally will be finding out when the time comes, but that's my choice for me! I have a friend who didn't want to find out the sex and he said it made it all the more special for him and DW. You do what's right for you!!

Re: "I can't believe you're not finding out!"
Nobody believes me when I say we don't know - they think that we do know and we just aren't telling. Like I could keep a secret! Not.
We just want a happy, healthy baby -- and yes I get tired of defending my position on this too.

Tell them that even with the technology, it's not always 100% correct!
I've had a positive reastion from people when we tell them we're not finding out....

"I can't believe you ARE finding out!"
Both sides get it. People need to learn to keep their opinions to themselves.

Re: "I can't believe you're not finding out!"
I feel that way and we are finding out.
One women even asked... "Are you going to find out the sex?" My reply "Yeah, I'm too much of a control freak." Her reply "I HATE when people find out" all snotty.
NICE!!! Why do you care if I know the sex of MY baby or not???
People always want others to think & act the way they do!

Re: "I can't believe you're not finding out!"
we aren't finding out either and my mom keeps pressuring me to find out. Personally, i'm weak and can be easily convinced to find out but i know it means alot to DH so i won't. Although when i go on Thursday - i will be scrutinizing that screen don't let it upset you. its your choice - period

Re: "I can't believe you're not finding out!"
My dilemma is I dont want to find out but DH does b/c he wants to set up the nursery and stuff...So we keep going back and forth on it. My mother also wants to know what it is so she keeps telling my DH to find out and then tell her... But I seem to be getting the same reaction--- Ohh dont find out and then of course you have to find out. Ultimately it is the PARENTS DECISION. So as much as it is annoying try to ignore it b/c people will say what they want regardless of peoples feelings.
Not to change the subject but I got asked the question the other day on what names we have picked out. So i told this person that if its a boy it will be named after DH. So she goes on to say ohh dont name the baby after someone else- dont you want to give the baby an original name...
So if its not one thing it will be another thing. You just have to try to ignore it or else it will drive you crazy...
Sorry so long

Re: "I can't believe you're not finding out!"
Finding out is not the norm among our friends. So we are getting some slack for wanting to know. I just told a friend that we will be finding out and she said, in that tone, "yeah, you WOULD want to know." People need to shut up.

I got this throughout my WHOLE pregnancy... it did get very annoying. I agree, to each their own ... but we were definitely in the minority on NOT finding out the sex ahead of time.
Hang in there

Re: "I can't believe you're not finding out!"
We had the opposite problem. DH and I see the decision as a very personal one and we wanted to find out what we were having. When certain people found out we wanted to know the sex of the baby, we heard everything from "Why ruin the surprise?" to "That's just not God's way.". My standard response was, and still is, my life, my baby, my choice. Don't let other people's ignorance and insensitivity bother you.

Re: "I can't believe you're not finding out!"
We decided not to find out, I agree with you, its nice to have a little extra soemthign to look forward to.
I can't wait for the moment when the doctor announces
"Its a girl" or Its a boy"
I really look forward to that moment.
Also I imagine our families outside inthe waiting room anticipating if its a girl or a boy.
