I can’t do this anymore!!!
I finally had my meltdown, or tantrum as my husband called it. I can’t do “remote learning” anymore, my kids hate it and aren’t learning. They are crying every morning at the thought of doing it. I’m not a teacher, I don’t know how to “dumb” concepts down to an 8 year old. I can’t work from home anymore. Simple tasks are taking triple the amount of time. I WANT to go food shopping and be able to find some f—-ing yeast so I can make some f——ing pizza dough with my kids bc my husband won’t get takeout. My daughter is having sleeping issues because she is almost in some sort of “depression” from this. Every day it’s the same fight over school than I lock myself in my office to attempt to work and than I play a game of chopped to see what I can put together with the ingredients I have and than we fight bedtime because we dread the next day. I AM DONE!!! Ahhhhhh feels great to get it out!!!!

Re: I can’t do this anymore!!!
My daughter is having sleeping issues too. I posted it about it here yesterday.
School is a joke. She is being taught by apps and you tube videos and every class, every app, every subject has a different password and user name you have to log into . It's ridiculous.
Then the specials think you are going to be doing stuff for them too. Yeah ok. She hasn't touched her instrument - and I'm not pushing it either. Whatever.
I want to go to a store too and not have to wear a mask. I actually haven't been in a store since the mask mandate because I can't wear one. I hate seeing people in masks everywhere I go- it freaks me out.
We at least get take out- I don't know how you are surviving with having to cook every meal. I'd break if I couldn't have my pizza, or a good meal from a Italian place, etc Home cooked food is not my favorite thing... lol
I want to go to my office so bad. I never thought I'd say that. I want to get up, put make up on, do my hair, wear a dress and heels.
I want to see people
If my office opened tomorrow I'd be there.
over it is an understatement

Re: I can’t do this anymore!!!
Oh you are not alone! I had this tantrum over a week ago. Trying to "homeschool" a dyslexic 4th grader is pure torture. She's not sleeping well and is an only child- she's BORED. Work is nuts and I feel like I'm working more than ever- I don't even have time or energy to do laundry. I am cooking and washing dishes all freaking day long. I do not go to the store- I send DH- I too feel like it's an episode of chopped every meal. DH is working crazy long hours in a hospital & I worry too much about that.
It's OKAY to have a tantrum. It's OKAY to feel overwhelmed.
Have you tried Facetime or Zoom calls with friends? I lock myself in my office at least two nights a week and have wine/white claw with friends just to BS and laugh. IT HELPS SO MUCH! Even if it's just an hour.
We're all in this together

Re: I can’t do this anymore!!!
Must be something in the air today. Ive been mad and upset but this morning I actually broke down and cried. Ive been trying to be grateful that my family has thus far escaped the horror of the virus. But today I allowed myself to have a “how it affects me” moment. Im upset that our business will not recover for a long time, if ever. Im upset that our savings will be gone soon and then what. Im upset that my parents are so depressed that they havent hugged their kids or grandkids in 2 months. Im upset that I can only stay in the grocery store 10 minutes bc I cant breathe with a mask on. But Im mostly upset about my kids and how they are being punished in so many ways by this situation - physically, mentally, socially, educationally.

I'm sorry. I know it sucks!
I'm just tired. Tired of homeschooling, tired of this crappy weather, tired of cooking and dishes. I have a very active toddler that I am trying to manage while homeschooling my 6 year old. By the end of the day, I am just so exhausted that I have no energy to do anything.

Oh, same!
I had a meltdown on Monday. Zooming with friends is a lifesaver. I know it'd not the same, but it sure does help.
My 4th grader has zero interest in band ala zoom. Barely interested in the once a week classroom zoom.
I am ordering takeout more often these days.
I can't focus on work the way I used to, and I've always worked from home.
Hangin' in there...

I can’t do this anymore!!!
Not alone! This stinks. I am trying to home school my children on top of remote teaching my class. My 3rd grader & 1st grader have google meets at all different times, sometimes as early as 8:30. Google classroom still confuses the heck out them, and now they have to submit assignments through google docs. My 1st grader can't do it, he needs help. Which means sometimes we are doing his work at 3 pm, when I am done with my own students. DH has been working from home, but he goes back to the office on Monday. Not sure how much school will get done after tomorrow. My oldest DS will be 9 next week, and he is falling into a depression. We are all cranky, depressed, and ready to snap. My kids are zombies who spend way too much time on their electronics. We cook Sun-Thurs, and do takeout Friday & Saturday nights. We get groceries delivered because I hate wearing a mask and standing in line outside only to find empty shelves. My mammo/gyno appointment was cancelled for March, which is absurd to me, these yearly tests are necessary for women's health. The few nice days we have had, we go out for family walks & bike rides, but for the most part this month has been nasty out. I know how lucky we are that we still have income, and that all of us are healthy. But my heart breaks for all those facing homelessness & starvation, for the dead, the sick. I cry every night. So...i'm with you! Another month of this and I will totally snap and fall apart.

Re: I can’t do this anymore!!!
Yeah, tomorrow will be day 50 of my quarantining. I think we are all going a little crazy.
As a teacher, I have no problem teaching my daughter but she is frustrated having me as a teacher now and not just as a mom. As an only child, she misses all the social interaction. She is so bored all the time and expressing how lonely she is and wishes for other kids to be around. It makes me cry nightly. But it context of school, I hate how disorganized the online learning is. I agree it's mostly (annoying) videos on different media platforms and you are juggling 5 different google classrooms and 45 different web browser links for elementary school. It's impossible for them to do it on their own. I have to do the typing for my daughter. It's a true full time job.
I'm struggling with my anxiety and keeping the house clean. I literally do multiples dishes a day, like I empty the dishwasher in the morning, fill it and run it by the afternoon, then empty at night, fill and run at night again. On top of that handwashed dishes. Laundry is hard to do with everyone around and keeping the floor and table clean is literally impossible. There is no way to have a clean dining room table or sparkling floor anymore.
I also dread having to go food shopping. I used to enjoy it. I'd go a few times a week, as I usually use very fresh ingredients and buying only what I need to save money. I HATE wearing a mask. Now, I end up going as far apart as I can go to the store, being anxious before during and after. I end up just piling up a $300+ grocery bill that makes me sick and nothing is fresh, it's like all cans and boxes and frozen foods. My body is feeling so gross and depressed.
Plus we are all starting to get on each others nerves. We are running out of things to watch on TV and sick of the same board games and have nothing to discuss on facetime with our family because literally nothing changes day by day except my stomach gets bigger and bigger lol.....

It's supposed to be in the 60's this weekend. Try to get out and get some sunshine and exercise. It's been the best mood booster for my family and I. These gloomy and rainy days have brought out the worst feelings in everyone. Hang in there!

Re: I can’t do this anymore!!!
I have seen a lot of people on twitter say they are done with remote learning. Some of of them are professors or school teachers too. A lot of teachers can't teach their classes and their own kids at the same time. Will they hold your kids back if they don't complete all the assignments? Probably not, and if they aren't learning anyway, don't beat yourself up over it.
One of my neighbors said he isn't on his 8th grader too much about school work,. He wants her to do something that makes her happy ( facetime w/ friends, staying up late to watch a movie with him) and something to stimulate her brain. ( sometimes that is school, sometimes that is just reading for fun.)
Try & do something fun for yourself too. ( my husband has taken out his 20 year old playstation. . .)
I had a quite a few freakouts early on about not being able to get the food I wanted at the store. Take out definitely helps. Your husband needs to get over what ever is stopping him.
Also, check if there are any places by you selling pizza kits. there is a brewery by me ( in westchester) selling pizza kits that have been pretty popular. Some pizzerias on LI are doing that too. https://www.newsday.com/lifestyle/restaurants/long-island-restaurants-meal-kits-coronavirus-1.43345467
It can be gateway to take out, b/c you are going to cook it all your self.

Yup, exactly. Men don't make the rules. If he doesn't want to take out, I would tell him he's on his own.

Yep, eff that. He can cook if he won't eat take out. I'd eat a pizza right in front of him and say...omg this is so delicious!

I can’t do this anymore!!!
Thank you for posting.
I've lost it many times over the past week - it's a lot. Working from home and teaching at the same time is near impossible. Work is flexible but we are swamped right now and I'm still learning this process so I am so stressed.
DH hasn't been doing as much as he thinks he is and is wondering why I'm working so late every night.... I was ready to go off tonight since my son didn't want to do his piano lesson while he went to the supermarket right before as I was trying to prep dinner and finish up work. He doesn't understand that working from home isnt' just checking in - it's working from home.
He didn't get the kids off electronics at all today (hence the piano meltdown) so I'm beyond furious. Just for a few minutes even would've made a difference. Thankfully the teacher understood and we're finishing tomorrow.
We are all grumpy and miserable. I'm so glad it's 4/30 so I never have to help write another poem again.

Re: I can’t do this anymore!!!
Why doesn’t he want take out? We only usually get it on the weekends but I miss my lunch hours that I can do what I want and eat without a dog bothering me or someone asking me to do something for them. Older kids but bugging the high schooler to do work and I know he is not getting it all done and it is stressing me out. I can’t help him while I am working so he waits until after dinner and I am tired and he has no interest as it is hard to do this.

Ok and I am going to say it so flame away but am I the only one getting tired of the birthday parades and beeping horns everyday some days multiple times? I am writing this as one is coming by, the 2nd one today and I don’t live on a main road. I am not a party pooper at all but it all is becoming overkill. Every story on the news is just another parade.

I actually love them. I think it is such a nice thing for the community to do for kids during this crazy and depressing time frame. They did one for my son and he was absolutely beaming. I get that it's annoying, but the noise is a small price to pay to bring a little happiness to kids during this time.

Omg. I'm glad you said it. I was thinking it yesterday as one blocked traffic on my street and kids were precariously hanging out of car windows and and sunroofs of moving vehicles. But I tend to be a bitchh so I scolded myself for thinking it . i also think it's actually sad and depressing if you think about it. No party. No friends. Just a bunch of honking cars. I think my DD would be even sader if we had to do that on her birthday. Depressing

Re: I can’t do this anymore!!!
and also they are doing something for the seniors in my area tomorrow. At 820 pm. Honk your horns and bang pots and pans for 20 minutes. Yes TWENTY whole minutes to honor the class of 2020. While it's a nice gesture and i feel so horrible for the Seniors this year who are missing out on literally everything and memories they will never get back, I highly doubt this will make up for it. Like any Senior is going to say... Wow, i feel sooo much better about missing my prom, my senior trip, my graduation because I heard 20 minutes of cacophony in my honor.
Mom, how was your senior prom? Oh I didn't have one dear. But the community honked their horns for 20 minutes and it was magical!!!

I think it’s nice for the kids vs. doing nothing if you have enough people. My son had his birthday party on March 7th at a bowling alley. He is 5 and it was his first real birthday party. So sad how this is going to be going forward. If we had a parade instead of a party it would have been a sad turnout, like 2 cars. I would feel weird asking classmates to do it so it would just be small family. I can’t wait for some normalcy to return

Just knowing there will be one in my neck of the woods lifts my spirits. It's one of the weird things we [humans] are doing now to cultivate some joy outside our bubbles with other humans. School parades, birthday parades, and celebration zoom calls are the new norm...for now.
We'll be back at annoying kids birthday parties IRL soon talkin about how we remember last year when we did that parade. In some cases there will be little joy to look back on, but we'll have these weird moments when we showed up in solidarity and respectful of each others safety.
I'm also the lady wrapping the kids gifts in the back of my car in the parking lot minutes before the birthday party begins.
I do enjoy the art of shopping for a gift.
The aisles of Target...
Getting outside period is generally a game changer especially if it's sunny out.

I know. It's terrible.
i hate this zoom bullshitt too. I don't like being on video and I find it annoying with everyone talking over each other. Honestly if I can't meet up in person i will just skip it until I can. I don't need to see others drinking in tiny video boxes. I'd rather go read my book with my glass of wine or go take a bath.
