What goes down must go up...the people I'm concerned for most are those retiring soon (like my parents!)
I agree. My in laws aren't sure if they will be able to retire right now like they were planning.
I don't even want to tell you how much I lost - I was putting a big chunk of my paycheck in my retirement, however, like everyone said, don't touch it. Eventually, it will go up. It may take a while, but as with most of us here, we have a long while to retire. Just think how much stock/funds you can buy now with your money!

I'm not looking, nor can I touch it for many years.
don't wanna know... I just hope that the market recovers
not looking!!
ditto!!!! I am not looking again till the spring!! I am also blocking out the fact that I'd meant to get out of the risky stocks (only 15% of my portfolio, but still) back when the lehman announcements hit, but thought i'd be better off sticking it out a bit....now i need to in order to recover anything! so sad....and in the first half of the year i lost about 20% of my portfolio as it is. UGGG
this too shall pass...i hope! i'm just grateful i'm not on the verge of retirement right now.

Re: I checked my retirement account...
Fortunately for most of us, we have a very long time til retirement and it will eventually bounce back. However, like a fraidy-cat, I moved all my money (temporarily) out of stocks and into 100% return bonds.

Re: I checked my retirement account...
I just looked at mine and it didn't look as bad as I thought.
Maybe that's because I have been pumping so much cash into it, the losses I am taking are offset by the contributions.

That's how mine was at first glance too, the $ amount is the same as it was in the beginning of the year, but the loss is actaully about 20% Oh well, it's a great time to be buying stocks though. We will all be happy a few years from now when the volume of stocks we are buying catch up in value.

Well, I'm so sick to see that Sirius/XM Radio is down to 68 cents a share...
I bought it for 7 dollars a share...
I really can't afford to loose that money now.
I have totally given up on the stock. I bought it at $4.50 and considered selling it at $9 but decided to wait till got a little higher......well it didn't.
