I don't know how much more I can take
I'm really at my wits end, I dont know how much more I can take of it.
Katie has had bad gas for a couple of weeks now but the last 4 days have been horrible.
I put her on Nutramigen almost 3 days ago and I was praying it would work for her.
She cried - no screamed bloody murder - from 8pm until 3:30am this morning. I had to sit up in bed and hold her all night to try and console her. She stopped screaming but was still crying and fussing from 3:30 on - and is still doing it now.
Im taking her to the ped at 2pm today but I just dont know how much more of this iI can take, I really dont.

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
Unfortunately, no one really forewarns new mommies that sometimes tending to a newborn can be absolute hell. There were many a night and day I would end up sitting in my rocker, rocking Alex while she cried, and I sobbed right alongside with her to an oblivion. Having a fussy/terribly gassy newborn is really hard, I know. But, hang in there... you'll learn ways to make it better and within a few weeks it will start to get better. Definitely go to the pediatrician and ask him/her to evaluate your little one for acid reflux. It may be silent reflux, which is treatable...

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
It's sooooo hard. I hope it gets better fast...for both of your sakes.
I know this is no cure but are you swaddling??? Tightly??? Maybe it will help a little bit. Did you watch The Happiest Baby on The Block DVD?
They say when you switch formulas it can get worse before it gets better (I BF so don't really know). Are you using powder or RTF? After a couple more days maybe switch to the other and see how that goes.
Hang in there

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
I'm so sorry you are going through this. It sounds like she is colicky.
I'm just going to throw things out there for you to try...don't know if you've tried them already but always check with your ped first.
- Dr. Brown's bottles (or if you have those switch to another brand, maybe Playtex nursers or Avent)
- Gripe Water
- Mylicon drops
- DON'T pump her legs if she seems to have gas. I know alot of people believe this works, and it probably does it some cases but if you've already tried it, maybe try not doing it because I've heard that this can actually make gas worse.
- read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child by Dr. Weissbluth.
Good luck!! And hang in there, it will get better.

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
ˆIt will get better I promise! I was reading one of my posts from October and I sounded just like you at my breaking point. I kept asking people when will it get better. The girls on here and other moms assured me it would and it did.
Antonio had colic and gas and it was a very difficult time for us.
All the suggestions offered by the previous posts are worth a try. Also let the baby sleep wherever don't worry about spoiling righ now. Take the baby out...put them in the stroller and walk!
I PRMISE IT WILL GET BETTER!

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
I'm sorry. Sarah was diagnosed with colic and believe it or not the ped. told us to use white noise, and that other parents told him the most effective was static. He told us to pull the cable wire out of the tv and just play the static. I thought he was insane but it totally worked. Now we all can fall asleep to the sound of static.
I hope that your doctor can help you figure out how to help Katie, so that you both feel better and get some sleep.

White noise worked like a chram for us too-we used the vacuum a lot-DH swore we had the cleanest carpets in the world! And we also used to put on a staticy readio station for Jenna to fall asleep too-cheaper than a white noise machine too!

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
I went through the same thing with Jake. I know exactly how you feel. I was misreable and always said to myself no one ever told me it was going to be like this. I remember sitting up all night rocking him. But.. it took a few weeks, but it did get better I can promise you that. And the nutramitgen definatly help Jake out alot. If you ever need to vent please FM me.

We were on Alimentum (similar to the Nutramigen) and it really did nothing for us. We tried every formula possible in combination with my breastmilk and our best success so far has been with Enfamil Gentlease. Maybe ask your ped about that.

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
hope things get better soon! the happiest baby on the block helped us soooo much! we use white noise, swaddling (he used to fight at first, but now it's the only way he gets good sleep), and we kind of jiggle him and he goes right to sleep.

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
Thank you SO MUCH. I needed this so bad - to vent and get advice and get
I'm going to try some of the suggestions too. I appreciate it so much.
I broke down and took her to the chiropractor today. My DH was against it when I mentioned it to him but I did it anyway - I know that is really wrong but I have to use my motherly instincts right now - DH has no idea what its like to be with her like this 24/7.
My chiro has 4 kids including twin infants and he adjust them all and he had great success with helping the colic when his kids had it.
I have to try it, it can't hurt and I'm grasping at straws to find something to make her feel better. It's not even ME, as you guys know, I just cant stand seeing her in so much pain. She cries so hard she turns purple and shakes. It breaks my heart.
Thank you again SO MUCH everyone and keep any and all suggestions coming, I'm willing to try anything!

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
I don't have any suggestions other than what has already been said. I definately agree with the techniques in the book/DVD THE HAPPIEST BABY ON THE BLOCK. I have seen it work with my baby.
I hope things get better for you both soon!

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
Hey Kathy! First congratulations on your beautiful little girl..I don't think I've told you this before. Have you tried holding her on your arm so her belly is pressed against your arm? You can also do this on your leg. Have you tried "kangaroo care" This is where you hold the baby against your naked chest. Maybe try some soothing music too? Good luck

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
Again with the Cranial Osteopathy...but I think it is worth a go for ailments like these!!!
Also, what about putting the baby to sleep on her side, I read somewhere that gas pains are worse if you lie the baby on her back!
Good Luck

This definitely helped with my daughter when she had terrible gas... and the daycare workers do it all the time...

Re: I don't know how much more I can take
Thanks again everyone.
Her ped put us on another new formula. Seems the Nutramigen isnt working and now we're on the Similac Alimentum.
He also gave me a prescription for Zantac, which I filled and will start her on tomorrow if the formula doesnt do the trick.
Next step is putting her on Neocate.
So i have some hope for tonight...
