I don't know what to think anymore - please tell me I'm not crazy
For the past few days, James has been running a low-grade fever on and off. He'll be fine, and then it will go to like 100.5. We took him to the doctor on Friday when it went up to 100.8 - of course when we got there it was 98.9. Doc said there's nothing wrong with him, but to call if he had any change in his poop patterns. This morning so far, he's had 4 big mucousy poops. His rectal temp was 99.8. I just called the office and left a message or the doc to call me back. He's eating fine and smiling and giggling - he did have a little crust on his eyes this morning and now his eyes seem a little red - he does have a bad diaper rash (since Friday, the doc saw it)
I know that I'm going to bring him in and they're not going to find anything wrong and they'll think I'm a loon. I'm normally very laid back, but something tells me that there's something brewing with him.
I go back to work on Wednesday - I an a nervous wreck right now.

A mom knows her child best. If you feel more comfortable bringing him in, then I would. Don't worry what they will think.
Personally from what you wrote he seems ok.

It's probably a virus.
DD has had a couple and they're like that - 103 temp, down to 98, back up to 102 over 3 or 4 days. No rhyme or reason and nothing you can do for them except worry. I hope he gets well soon.

Of course you did the right thing... it is not your ped's job to form an opinion of you. And the ONLY REASON I feel your DS has a virus is because I've taken DD to the doctor every time she had one - and as recently as a week ago. You do whatever makes you feel better and don't worry about what others think about it.
