I don't understand the sizing of baby clothes!

Christopher was 6lbs, 12oz when he was born 6.5 weeks ago. I had to send my mom out to buy newborn sleepers for him.

Now...6.5 weeks later he is still wearing them and he gained almost 3lbs by 5 weeks! Newborn diapers still fit him best as well too.Chat Icon

He has to be almost 10lbs and 0-3 clothes are HUGE on him and the newborn ones are still baggy on him

Do they just size things large now?

I have the opposite problem - at 8lbs 11 oz none of the newborn clothes or diapers worked out for DS. Now at 9lbs 3 oz I am seeing that our time in 0-3 is going to be ending soon.

I understand what you mean by the 0-3 being huge on a 10lber. My DD was 9 lbs 3 ox at birth. We knew she was going to be big so we got a lot of 0-3 and 3-6. But when I put her 0-3 going hom outfit on, it pretty much fell off.She was in newborn sizes for a good 3 weeks. She was also in newborn diapers for 1-1.5 months. I think it depends on weight distribution and the maker of the clothes. So now I don't go by the pounds on the label. I just put her in whatever fits.

It gets even worse whent they get bigger. My sons 24 month old clothes fall off him but are too short and it looks like he has flood pants on!
I can't find a pair of pants that fit snug on his waist and are long enough!

His T-shirts say 2T but are too short.

Emma is now 10lbs 10ozs and is still wearing some newborn things that are a bit baggy in the legs and just now fitting into her 0-3 months depending on the brand.

Alliosn was 10lbs at birth. She was in 0-3 for a while and then pretty much followed her age/size for the first few months. then she had a growth spurt where she zoomed into 9-12 months and thats where she has been for a while now eveb at 22lbs 11 oz and 29 inches, 95% and 90% fo hweighta dn wieght.. I think its bc all her weight is in her cheeks and thighs LOL

OOps - I misread this...

Acually, yes - but its weird - there are 9 mt outfits that are too small on him or just fitting, and then 3 mt stuff that are swimming on him, then he can still fit some newborn stuff - I dont bother even looking at the sizes anymore!!!

Re: I don't understand the sizing of baby clothes!

I don't get the sizing either. Sabrina is in 3-6 or just 6 month outfits but some are small and some are big.

The Gerber onesies are 3-6 and snug on her but the Gap and Old Navy stuff that is 3-6 is a little big.

I think baby clothes are just as bad as adult clothes. It all depends on the maker.
