Would any of you eat food that was given to you by a stranger???? Or, worse, give it to your child? And even worse, EXPIRED foods????
I have a co-worker who is always giving or receiving things through Free Cycle. Yesterday took the friggin cake! A woman came to the office and dropped off three boxes full of Gogart (you know those yogart in a tube?) that expired on JANUARY 14th. One box was have used before this co-worker got it. She is going to give this to her 3 year-old-son. I swear, I don't know what the fluck this woman is thinking?????
I eat food given to me by strangers all of the time. Restaurants, catering halls, etc. So yes I do & I give it to my child.
Would I eat expired food? No, not my own but I do eat at someone's house that is more liberal about expirations dates than I ever have been. I've never been sick from it yet.
Would I accept Gogurt from a stranger? No. As someone mentioned if it's a product to be refrigerated, I'd rather take my chances buying it from a supermarket & hope they keep to the guidelines.

Re: I Don't Understand This Woman!!!
I have eaten expired yogurt and drank expired milk. If I smell it and it smells ok I eat it. Those dates are usually sell by dates- not eat by dates. I haven't gotten sick yet- so I use my judgement.
HOWEVER- it does skeeve me out to accept food like that from a stranger and not know if it was refrigerated properly. And I also am a lot more strict with what I would give me DD. So yes, this is very strange to me!

Re: I Don't Understand This Woman!!!
I think gogart is gross-expired or not, but it is 10 times worse to accept expired stuff from a a stranger and feed it to your kid

If in doubt with my kids food I throw it out. For me, I will smell something and if it smells OK I will eat it. Tho not wth yogurt

Re: I Don't Understand This Woman!!!
This skeeves me on so many levels:
- Giving a kid food that someone else is getting rid of, without knowing anything about the giver: did they refrigerate this stuff? are they a psycho who poisons food?
- Giving a kid a dairy product that expired 3 weeks ago. Yeah, we all have a story about how we ate something expired and lived to tell the tale, but lots of us have food poisoning stories to share too.
- Giving a kid Gogurt. Sorry, that stuff is just gross. It's barely even "yogurt"

I don't understand a lot of people and I really don't try to. I tend to mind my own business when it comes to stuff like this. You made a comment and she didn't seem to care. It is what it is.

Re: I Don't Understand This Woman!!!
IMO she is endangering her childs life. That is wrong on so many levels. Eating expired food is bad but eating expired food that some stranger from the internet gives you, that is another.
I can only imagine what else this woman does that you are not aware of that is weird, unsafe, and unsanitary.
DO NOT EAT FOOD SHE BRINGS IN if she offers it to you, that's for sure.

You cannot compare this situation to eating food from a stranger's hands in a restaurant. Not at all.

I didn't think anything of it when she told me someone was coming by to drop something off, but when I heard them talking and realized what it was, I couldn't believe what I was hearing, especially when she told the woman, "my son ____ thanks you for it, too." The whole thing is just bizarre as well as disgusting.

Re: I Don't Understand This Woman!!!
A few days ago I had yogurt that expired Jan 28th... it tasted metallic and I ate half of it before checking that date... just that half gave me a stomach ache. No way i would feed a kid yogurt that was 2 weeks old. Dairy isn't something to mess around with.
