Re: I feel like I am not doing the right thing with my newborn
Does your DD cry a lot because of the refux? I just switched my DD to alimentum and she has been acting much calmer and seems overall like a much happier baby. Maybe you can try that?

Re: I feel like I am not doing the right thing with my newborn
Hi again,
Switching formulas definitely did the trick for us. DH and I spent three weeks sleeping in the living room and baby slept in the swing until we switched formulas. He was basically fine during the day but would get really gassy and uncomfortable at night. Talk to your pediatrican. We found that he was fine on Similac when he was only drinking 2 or 3 ounces but once he was drinking 4-6 ounces at a time it was heavy on his tummy. Enfamil Gentlease has been wonderful for my baby but every baby is different.
Also, as a previous poster pointed out the Bumbo should be used with babies who have good head and neck control. Mine does, but I always supervise and really only keep him in the seat for 15-20 minutes. Otherwise he gets bored.
Baby also likes sleeping on his side and still does quite a bit in the bassinet.
You'll see a lot of changes between 2 and three months. Baby is 3 and a half months old and now he likes Sesame street and Elmo, he likes the the activity mat (hated it a month ago), doesn't have to be held quite as much as before, and is interacting a lot more with me than he was before. Is your baby smiling yet? Its so great once they start smiling and laughing!

We have the FP Newborn to Toddler Rocker and that worked great with Emerson early on. It was a safe place for her to sit, she loved the toy bar, and it helped her keep her formula down.
My friend raved about this. I think I will buy this tonight at BBB also. I think it will help to have something else for DD to sit in after feedings. Thank you.

its natural to eta: did you ask your ped about going to a GI specialist? ours had us add rice cereal to her bottle because she was spitting up so much she wasnt gaining weight at first.
That's the thing. My DD is a champ with gaining weight so they aren't really too concerned. She gains even more than the norm each time, she has a huge appetite and keeps most of it down. That's why I sometimes wonder if its more so gas than reflux??
Also we tried the rice cereal, it didn't do anything.

She doesn't really cry much at all. Wimpers a bit and pushes and grunts alot. I have to switch I think, we can't go on like this.

Exactly, it wasn't so bad when she was younger, it is getting worse and worse now...maybe I do have to switch. THis sounds just like us!
My baby girl smiles ALOT, started about 2-3 weeks ago. She follows us alot, follows toys with her eyes and smiles, smiles at us, etc. It is definitely rewarding and helps me to lose some frustration seeing the progress she is making.

Re: I feel like I am not doing the right thing with my newborn
Honestly just relax and enjoy it. There's not much you can do wrong with a newborn. I have a 3 year old so I don't do a heck of a lot with my newborn and he's doing fine with milestones and such. Reflux, gas, etc. Not a whole lot to do other than survive it until they grow out of it.

Re: I feel like I am not doing the right thing with my newborn
I was the exact same way. The first few months are hard. DS spent most of the day in the bouncy seat. I read him a couple of books. I held him to eat and upright for 30 minutes after for his reflux. Tummy time wasnt easy because DS would spit up immediately. We would let him lie on our chest. As your DD gets older tummy time will get easier.

Re: I feel like I am not doing the right thing with my newborn
I think all new mommies go through this, DS is 11 weeks and trust me I feel the same!!! It's nice to hear it though from someone else. I try to do a little of everything during the day. He spends the majority of time in my arms. He hates tummy time so I don't do it very often, I try to put him to nap on his tummy though. When he is sleepy I let him rest in his bouncy seat or in his bassinet. For entertainment he loves the playmat with music and lights so I play with him on that a few times a day to "entertain him." or put him in his crib with the mobile and he loves that too. After 15 minutes of that he has had enough, same thing with the swing, he only will stay in it for 15-20 minutes max then cry that he's had enough. Taking him in the stroller also helps break up the day...I think I'm doing the right things??...
DS is also on Similac Eary Shield and it makes him so gassy, I also BF and I find the more formula he gets the more uncomfortable I spoke to my pediatrician about and she said unless he is allergic all formulas are the same so we shouldn't switch? I've been hearing great things about Enfamil and Good Start so I'm debating if I should just switch him. I feel so bad when they are so uncomfy.
