I feel like I'm doing solids all wrong

My DS is 6 months old and between bottles and solids, I feel like I'm feeding him all day. I'm bothered by the fact that I think he's eating solids (only because I'm feeding him) when he's not even hungry. At least with his bottles I know he's hungry. He has his solids in between bottles (1-2 hours after a bottle, 3 times per day).

Here's a schedule:
7:30AM - 8oz bottle
9:30AM - cereal
11:30 - 7-8 oz bottle
1PM - 1 oz veggie
3:30 - 7-8 oz bottle
5:30 - cereal
7:30-8PM - 5-6 oz bottle

Should I be feeding him his solids WITH a bottle instead of in between? Is this better? How should I do this?

I'm also always worried about his formula consumption. He takes about 26-28 oz but i think sometimes its becasuse I insist he try to have more.

It changes a lot now, especially once they get to table food...

I would do the food w/the bottle times, and if he's hungry in between feed him

I should add that, around your DS's age, I felt like it was less of a regular schedule and fed her when she was hungry

that was my schedule with both my DCs but not til much later..I think I did a month of 1 solid meal a day, then the next month two and the next 3...so I wasn't feeding 3 meals until like 8 mo old! maybe if you feel your DC is not hungry drop a solid meal or two!?!?!?! It isnt necessary in the beginning really just more experimentation!

I think we were only doing the solids 1 or 2 times a day at that age.

My twins are just over 5 months. This is our schedule

7:30-8am cereal with 1/2 fruit followed by 8oz bottle

12:00 8 oz bottle

4pm cereal with 1/2 veggie followed by 8 oz bottle

8pm 8 oz bottle


I always feed them their solids right before te bottle and they sill finish the bottle. I did the same with my older DS. He wasn't on to 3 "meals" a day til closer to 7-8 months

Yup, that's my sched. Actually, that sched started at around 8 mons. Sometimes it stretches to 3 hours between feedings and he hasn't been finishing the bottle lately

DS is a HOG and eats like a pig...

He's just over 7 months and here is his schedule:

7:30 am - 8 oz bottle
9:00 am - 2 jars of stage 2 (grain/fruit)
10:30 am - 4-5 oz bottle
12:15 - 2 jars of stage 2 (veggie/protein)
2:30 pm - 8 oz bottle
5:15 pm - 4 TBS oatmeal mized with formula and a jar of stage 2 (either vegie or fruit)
7:00 pm - 8 oz bottle

I feel like all he does all day is eat. When he first started 3 meals a day, I was SOOOOOOO thrown off with when to feed him/how much, etc, but he worked it out himself and his schedule is like clockwork now.

Im so shocked at everyones schedule.. once they start with 3 meals a day it's like you are feeding every 2-3 hours!! I didn't realize that!!

Daycare is going to have their work cut out for them!!!

We only do solids twice a day right now (DS is 4 months).

8am: 6.5 ounce bottle followed by 1 tbsp of oatmeal or rice cereal mixed with a half container of fruit and a splash of formula

11am: 6.5 ounce bottle

2pm: 6.5 ounce bottle

5pm : 6.5 ounce bottle

6:30pm: 1 tub of veggie

8:30pm: 6.5 ounce bottle

We don't send solids to daycare yet.

I do in between bottles. She is eating solids only twice a day for now as well.

Luce will be 6 months next week.

I JUST bumped him up to solids twice a day.

now he gets cereal or cereal with fruit in the morning, and a fruit or veggie in the afternoon.

what I do is I feed him AS SOON AS he wakes up in the am. normally he'd have nursed at hour or so before that.

then, I let him play for a little bit and nurse him to sleep before i leave for work. he takes a little less milk but not by much.

then, he has his fruit/veggie right before his mid afternoon feeding.

then he feeds every 3 hours like clock work for the rest of the day.

If you are worried about his milk intake, give him that first. then wait a lil bit, then let him have his solids. they don't NEED the solids as much as they need the milk. scale back his solids if that will make you feel better.
