I feel so bad! and vent- Daycare related
I was dropping Megan off at her daycare this morning and when I brought her into the room there was a baby sitting on just the other side of the door and I must have banged his head or fingers with the door and he started crying!
There is a window on the door to look to make sure, and I did look, but this baby must have been right next to the door so I couldn't see him - fortunately I opened the door slowly so I didn't "Bang" him. But still I feel so bad and a little that the staff didn't keep this baby out of harms way - I mean they shouldn't let the babies play right next to the door - I know that they will crawl back there if you move them, but shouldn't they be watching better and sit where they can signal to someone looking in the window to not come in until they move the baby!
But I really feel bad for the baby

NOT YOUR FAULT! The staff certainly should have the children AWAY fromt he door. ESP> at prime drop off pick up times, that's just common sense!
Poor lil baby!

Poor little guy, but it isn't your fault.
They should have an entire glass door ------ or put a window down low, so that you can see if a child is -right there-.
How did the daycare staff respond?

Poor lil baby!
ITA! Not your fault at all and based on the situation...if it wasn't you that opened the door it would have been another parent/staff and the SAME thing would have happened. I am sure the child is fine

That's not your fault...he shouldn't have been in front of a door. I'm sure 5 minutes later he forgot it even happened

The staff quickly comforted him and assured me he was fine. But it is making me rethink the daycare- I mean Megan isn't moving yet, but when she does, will the same thing happen to her?

I feel your pain! The same thing happened to me. I opened the door, couldn't see the girl there because she was right up against the door and I smashed her fingers. She was hysterical! I felt horrible, but it was really their fault for letting her play right there.

Re: I feel so bad! and vent- Daycare related
DC love playing by one of the doors in our house. I've often pushed them with the door. I know that there is a chance of them being there, so I'm just very careful. It only takes a few seconds for them to get there, and DW can't always get to them in time.
I wouldn't put too much blame on the staff. They are making sure that everyone in the room is happy and safe, and at the moment, they were. It's possible that they were tending to another child at the time.
Unfortunately, these things happen. As long as everyone is OK, it becomes a "lessons learned"...
