i almost feel bad posting this... money related
with the economy aftecting so many badly and it being the hot topic, i was a little warry about posting this.
although dh really made me angry yesterday with the way he went about doing this... i am happy to announce that...
as of today, we are debt free!
fil saw how hard dh is working two jobs to get ahead, he decided to lend us the money to pay every debt off. now we are to pay him back WITH NO INTEREST.
now, we'll be able to seriously save, fix-up the house, and have less stress.

ps. now, i'll be taking control of our finances. i told dh that we did it his way for almost two years and we never got ahead, now it's my turn to take the reigns.

No offense, but I personally, wouldn't consider that debt free being that you still have to pay your FIL back? Just MO.
Although, it's great that he did that though. That's really sweet of him!

But I'm sure it's more of a relief to owe dad than the banks who would come and take everything away in a heartbeat. While it's not technically debt free, it's probably a huge weight off of her shoulders.

yeah, not debt free... but at least you've cleared your credit and you're not pissing away money in interest to credit cards, etc. that was so nice of your FIL! did he give you a time frame?

I don't know why you would feel bad posting this
your still in debt- you just transfered who you owe it to
personally- I would rather owe the banks as well- I don't want or need my parents in my business
I hope you pay him back soon and put this behind you

It s ucks being in debt no matter where the money is owed. At least it is interest free for you now. I personally wouldn't want my parents or in-laws to know my business, but if it works for you, more power to you.

why do you feel guilty? being debt free is awesome! we live well below our means and can MORE than handle our small debts - THANK GOD! it's the best feeling!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think it's great that you are going to be able to pay the loan back interest free. if my parents offered us the $$ to do that, i would accept their offer in a heartbeat!
and good for you for taking over the finances, too. i wouldn't feel bad for posting this, it's obviously something that you feel very relieved about and that is what's important.

Don't feel guilty! Yes, you still owe $$ to someone, but they're not going to affect your credit report. Good for you! I'm sure you'll be able to make this debt work for you. And the money you'll be saving on interest payments will be great! Congrats!!

Don't feel guilty! Yes, you still owe $$ to someone, but they're not going to affect your credit report. Good for you! I'm sure you'll be able to make this debt work for you. And the money you'll be saving on interest payments will be great! Congrats!!

I think thats great!!!!!! Now there are no finance charges and all the other cr@p that comes along with it! So you have to pay it back BUT like some of the other posters said, no finance charges!!!

That is awesome, congrats!!!!! There was an AWESOME article in Money magazine (July 08) that I read in my dr's office about becoming debt free.
