I feel sorry for...
anyone who went to Smith Point Beach today and didn't get there before 10:30am
WE got there around 10:15, and waited MAYBE 10 minutes on line to get into the parking area. The girl in the booth warned us that there was an EXTREMELY high tide, and most of the beach was gone, AND that there were TONS AND TONS of green flies 
We decided to take our chances (along with the 50+ other cars) - paid the $10.00, and went to see just how bad it was.
There was BARELY 150ft of beach!!!!  The waves were like 12-15ft high, and soooo strong ---- I LOVE the ocean, so it was sooo beautiful and cool to see!!   
There were very few spots with dry sand left, but we managed to find a good spot and set up camp. Well - the flies were UNBEARABLE!!!!!! We went thru an entire bottle of bug spray, but they were relentless - and those little suckers bite like MOFO's!!!!!!!! 
After about an hour, we decided to pack up and go!!!!! BY THAT TIME, the line of cars waiting to get into the beach must've been a mile long!!! It went all the way to the bridge and onto William Floyd Pkwy.
I was soooo tempted to yell at everyone as we were leaving "DON'T BOTHER - TURN AROUND AND GO HOME" 
we ended up just having a BBQ in the backyard

I got eaten ALIVE by green flies last week at Robert Moses and today at the IL's beach house! This summer has been insane!

On news today they were saying how Robert Moses has no beach left, and same with Jones-field 6.

wow - so the flies are at quite a few beaches along the south shore 
figured as much about the beach erosion, but thought the fly problem was just there - guess not
we were in montauk last week, and nothing. PLENTY of beach and not one green fly. i wonder why that is

We went to Talisman/Barret beach - by boat and when we got to the Ocean side - it was INSANE!!!!!
There were TONS of greenflies, cause of the northly winds!
From what I heard they were around yesterday - but not as bad as today
But I can say - the water on the Ocean side was sooooooooo clear and the waves were beautiful. I took some pictures, I should download them

Yes, there's a major green fly issue this summer...
That's sounded offical didn't it??  
I honestly have no idea since I didn't get to the beach ONCE this summer.

and I used to LIVE in long beach on the beach

The green flies are cuz of the change in direction of the wind...
The lack of beach is from Hanna....apparently she's wreaking havoc on LI beaches.

if we'd gotten there any later - i would have been P!ssed waiting on that long azz line, only to be so uncomfortable on the beach
don't get me wrong, the WATER was AWESOME
the flies -
couldn't take it - left after an hour like your SIL
