I generated 40.27kWh of power yesterday!

I'm really loving these solar panels! We have a website that I can monitor at work, and a display in the house, so we are always watching how much power we are making. Yesterday, we made just over 27Kwh of power! On average, over the course of last year, we used 34Kwh per day. That of course includes the middle of summer with 4 window AC units going full-tilt.

27Kwh, and it's not even summer yet! There's a very good chance we'll be at a net zero usage from LIPA, and hopefully generating a bit more than we've used! External Image

(of course, there are many days that we hardly generate anything, like during the recent snow storm, but hopefully we'll balance everything out over the course of the year....)

Yesterday was 26.6Kwh. I'm really looking forward to summer, when the panels will be cranking at full tilt! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I generated 33.6Kwh of power yesterday!

33.6Kwhs on Tuesday!

Not only is the meter running backwards quite a bit, the numbers on the meter at the same time each day are decreasing, meaning we are generating more power during the daylight hours than we are using all day. Chat Icon Chat Icon

That is so cool! SO with the excess it is just stored until you need it??

I rent a house in Florida that has solar panels, it was so cool! They always left instructions on how to switch over if the water wasnt hot enough but we never needed it!

The excess is sold back to LIPA. It's possible that at the end of the year, LIPA will send ME a check! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

It depends on how big the system is. LIPA pays for half, NY gives you $5k, and the Fed gives you 30% of the what's left.

We have a very big system (8100 kW), and we'll have to foot about a $19k bill after everything. A system half the size would be roughly half that price. There's roughly an 8-9 year return on investment, with a 25 year warranty on the panels. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Do you know what percentage your Solar Panels generates for your house?

This is pretty damm nice. I would do this myself, but my house is not large enough, and who knows how long i'll be here for.

It's not really fair to judge now. We've only had it a few weeks, and not the best solar time of the year. We're monitoring the usage, and over the course of the year, we'll have a good idea of total percentage. In the winter, and parts of fall and spring, we'll be taping into the grid, but in the summer, we should be putting a lot of power back. I'm guessing that we'll be close to 100% coverage over the entire year, but we still have 10+ months to go to really know for sure.
