Wow.
So I see by what I read of that article, we should all be boycotting Martha Stewart as she's giving scum bags like Marc Morrone to promote his asinine rhetoric.
Pathetic.

Wow, Marc Morrone. I am surprised at him. I went into his Parrot Shop about 2 years ago (before I knew any of this stuff) and he was in there. I should go in and give him a peice of my mind....hmmmm
I am shocked at him.

I'm not surprised at all.
There used to be quite a few Shake-A-Paw stores, but they've all closed (with the exception to 2 I think). CAPS has played a big hand in helping close many of their stores.

Isn't he the guy who used to have that pet show on TV? With the parrot sitting on his shoulder? If this is the same guy, I am SHOCKED. The need for puppies is insatiable? Does he KNOW about shelters or is he just that stupid?
And it seems from the other article that the AKC is somewhat to blame too, why don't they tighten up their standards and stop giving their seal to mill puppies?

Yes, Pet Keeping with Marc Marrone it was called I think. My gram and mom loved that show.
He owns Parrots of the World in Rockville Center. He is in there all the time. Just recently someone stole expensive birds from his store and he was on tv begging them to return the birds, they are young and need care, etc....
Yet he blatantly is ok with puppy mills?????????????????????? I am really shocked at him. And to think when I met him, I told him my "mom" loves his show!
And you bring up a great point about the AKC.

I completely agree.
I'm not a huge fan of the AKC. As far as I'm concerned they take a MAJOR backseat when it comes to the PM fight.

They have about 20 inspectors that they send out at random to check any breeders that register puppies as AKC puppies, and if they register more than I think it is 6 litters a year it raises a red flag....
I think another good part of what needs to be done is to petition the AKC to: a- stop allowing Iams to sponsor all of their events (another topic, but trust me.....)
b- be more vigilant in granting AKC designation and maintaining it to truly show a responsible breeder from a phony
c- offer much more education regarding how to get the right dog for you, and a responsible way to get that dog.
Mark Marrone is a tool. I used to like him before I knew all of the dogs on the show were from his store. He does not use responsible breeders, and it made me question where some of his exotic birds came from too.......

I understand what you're saying but for an organization who says their mission is (this is directly from their site):
The AKC's Mission is to: Maintain a registry for purebred dogs and preserve its integrity.
Promote the sport of purebred dogs and breeding for type and function. Advocate for the purebred dog as a family companion.
Advance canine health and well being.
Work to protect the rights of all dog owners and promote responsible dog ownership.
How can they not want to be part of the fight against PMs?
It seems to me that the breeding practices of PMs go completely against their mission.
