I HAD A GIRL!!! (pics in photo album)
Hi all! Ava Jacqueline was born 5/17/07 via c-section - 8lbs, 5ozs & 19 1/2"
She is healthy & beautiful!!!
Here's a picture (not the greatest - were're still figuring out the camera)
Edit: The baby is sleeping, so here's my story:
I was a scheduled c-section for last Thursday (even though it's my first baby), so I knew when this was happening! I went in at 6:30 am and was brought to the OR at 8:30. After a bit of a wait there, they started the spinal. This was not as bad as I thought - I did some rhythmic breathing to help distract me. Once it was in, they moved me to the table & my DH came in. I have to say, I did panic and started hyper-ventilating when the spinal took effect - it is a very strange feeling to have total paralysis to your body, but still feel people touching you. I was convinced it didn't work & that I would feel the cutting & freaked out! I begged to be knocked out, but the anesthesiologist told me I was doing fine & this was ok & that I needed to breathe! I calmed down & things got better! It didn't take too long (in retrospect - at the time it was forever)! and at 9:51 a.m. Ava was delivered! She was perfect and cried immediately. I don't remember too much afterwards - they did give me "something to relax" right afterwards, but my DH said that she was crying until they brought her to me and held her face against mine & she immediately stopped crying & just stared at me! He says she knew I was her mommy & was calm!
The recovery has been going well since leaving the hospital on Monday. Not too much pain - left there w/o any pain meds, so it wasn't bad once the gas left my belly! I had my staples removed today & so far have lost 28 lbs since my last weigh in the week before Ava was born! I had gained 16 with the pregnancy, but had "extra" to start with! (I was on a liquid diet from Thursday to Sunday because of the gas, so that helped). I have a long way to go but this is a great boost!
