I had an interesting experience on the train the other day..what would you have done? (LONG)

Just thought I'd share...

I was taking the train into manhattan on friday to see FH. I was sitting across from another girl about my age, maybe a little younger. I think she was maybe about 20...halfway through brooklyn this guy, early-mid 20's gets on with his aunt. he's a huge guy, and he's loud and making all kinds of jokes with his aunt, and addressing the whole train like "My auntie thinks she's drinking booze, but it's really gingerale!" Like, he was just ebing obnoxious, but you had to laugh. So then he came and sat near me and the other girl, and I'm really trying to look busy so he won't talk to me..lol...so he talks to the other girl..saying he likes her small feet or whatever, after afew minutes he comes over to me and he's like "oh, you thought I wasn't going to holler at you" or whatever...and he starts making smalltalk, and he asks me if I have a boyfriend and I told him yes, how long, 6 years, etc. he told me "you should get married" "we are", and then he went back to the other girl and he said "how long have you been with your man?" she said "A couple of days" and he's like "well you've been with your man 6 years, I'm gonna go talk to her now" so he went and he was really in her face.. like hoverng over her but I just went about my business. Then she got off the train and he turned to me and started chit chatting again, he said "oh after 6 years you really know your man,m you really love him" and I was just like laughing and nodding. And then he said "But I know, when you first met you two were like boom boom boom *insert obscene gesture here* all the time and now you barely ever get it" I just ignored him then, and then he came and say next to em and started in with "I can tell by looking at you, you're not satisfied" And I turned to him and I just said 'you know, you're really rude" and he was SO loud..I mean the whole car was listening to him comment on my sex life. And then he said "why?" and I said "you're just very disrespectful and you think you know how to speak to a woman, but you don't", anyway then he got ****** off and started to make all these comments about me...or whatver. He just ****** me off so much. Ugh. I wanted to get away from him. I didn't mind when he was just making jokes or whatever, but then he was just being inappropriate and I didn't know how to handle the situation. What would you have done?

Something similar happened to me a while ago. When I saw what a nut he was, I ignored him. Even when he was talking right in my face. It really made HIM look like an azzhole.

honestly I would have gotten off the next stop and moved to the next car. I would never sit there and even engage in a crazy persons conversation, especially if i was alone.

Usually when people talk to me I pretend like I am deaf. I completely ignore them no matter what they say or do. Makes them look like the azz.

I usually break out the sarcasm in situations like that and do my best to make the person look and feel stupid.

if they feel stupid enough they'll leave me alone.

At first I thought he was just some funny loudmouth, you know? I'm pretty sure he was harmless..he just liked talking to women. I think he was trying to cinvince me to leave my Fh for him or something. I mean it didn't bother me what he said, he's just some loser..but I just felt like I shouldn't have to deal with being disrespected like that

Your right - you shouldn't be made to feel disrespected by this idiot when you gave him the benefit of the doubt. You handled it well and that is when I would've gotten up and gone to another car to get away from him

I'm with Lori on this one. I would have made him feel as stupid as he looked. I also have the "Rachel-deadly-stare", as my friends call it. It's unusual for someone to be able ot talk to me when they're getting it. I'm serious. It's a look you don't want to mess with and I can only make it when I'm reaching my breaking point.

I would have told him to F off...and I might have moved to another seat but I wouldnt have gotten off. People p i s s me off and I wouldnt want him to think he got the best of me.

he got off the train shortly after...

Sometimes I feel like if you try to move away from someone it can cause more problems. Es if they're crazy. I just stayed where I was, there were plenty of people n the train, so I didnt feel unsafe, just uncomfortable

my life is worth more than caring that anyone thinking they got the best of me. People do stupid things for confrontations much less than the one posted above. I've witnessed them. IMO, staying away from lunatics is the way to go.

Re: I had an interesting experience on the train the other day..what would you have done? (LONG)

This happened to me one day on the bus. I had a Nautica shirt on, it was me and my younger sister. no seats left, and this guy was like hey Nautica why don't you come and sit on my lap. first it was a whisper, then he got louder, saying it over and over again. Then he went overboard and obscene..I did not want to get off the bus in fear that he would get off as well. I was so mad at all the men on the bus that let this a hole talk to me like that. Finally I got a seat, and he got off the bus and yelled out that i was a beotch. My sister was mortified. I was embarressed. I really don't know what I would have done if I were you, the whole situation *****.

Re: I had an interesting experience on the train the other day..what would you have done? (LONG)

That's why I think it's safer to stay on the bus/train. I wouldn't want him to follow me onto the platform. At least on the train there were a lot of witnesses who saw the whole thing and knew he was just some guy harassing me. He got off before me, but if he hadn't, at leasy I was getting right off the train to meet FH, so either way I was safe

OMG I know what you mean by this....

once when I was about 19, I went to get gas and as i was filling up my car, this man drove in and almost sideswiped my car. I yelled at him to watch out and he called me a B* and all sorts of derogatory things. Then his friend got out and joined in. And there were a few men standing around and not one of them said anything. I can see I guess why they would not want to get involved and risk getting into a physical fight and all. But a "hey buddy, lay off" would have sufficed. Chat Icon

exactly not looking for a hero, but just someone to say something instead of watching me be harassed for the 35 minute ride. Or atleast to give me a seat away from this guy instead of having to stand up in front of everyone while he takes shots at me

Let me guess...this was the A train?????

Well I take this train to work every day and I could tell you some crazy stories.
When ppl annoy me, I just get up and go to the next car...People usually don't bc I look like I'm ready to kill someone on the train (Yes, someone told me that too, LOL)

Yeah that's all they had to say in your case...

I was looking around the people, at least for someone to make some gesture, like, hey this guy is crazy, ro something, and no one even looked at me Chat Icon

I either would have done that, or gotten off & just waited for the next train.
