I have a question about my bloodwork results..prolactin levels?!
I got bloodwork done the other day, and my doctor just called me with the results. He said my levels were all normal, except for my prolactin level. It was 34 instead of 30. I need to go back in next week for another blood test. Does anyone know anything about this or what it means? Thanks!!

Re: I have a question about my bloodwork results..prolactin levels?!
SOmetimes the hormones can be secreted by your pituitary gland and increase your levels. They will probably send you for more bloodwork to check levels again and other stuff.
If it remains high, they COULD send you for an MRI of your brain. This is not as scary as it sounds. Sometimes there is a pituiraty tumor that can cause the increase in hormones. A tumor is not the end of the world!! I have one and with the proper treatment, I have my wonderful son! A year later a friend of mine was diagnosed with one and she now has a son as well.
If you have any questions through your dr appts, please FM me.

I too have had high prolactin for the past 8+ years (I'm 25). I have had several mri's to determine that I do have a small tumor on my pituitary gland. The doctor prescribed bromocriptine which brought the prolactin level down. With that said, I got my BFP in November and am now 15 weeks pregnant so this is not a huge deal.
Your level is only slightly elevated so you may not even need medicine. When first detected, my level was over 600! The thing about an increased prolactin level is that it can interfere with ovulation so I'm sure that your doctor will want to make sure that everything is ok in that department. Nonetheless, I know that it sounds very scary but it is VERY manageable!
Please FM if you have any questions or just need someone to talk to!

Re: I have a question about my bloodwork results..prolactin levels?!
I had this same problem a few months back with my prolactin levels...
Were your hormone levels run 1st thing in the morning & fasting? Mine were run in the middle of the day and as a result a lot of stuff came up totally out of whack and they thought there was a strong poss that I might have that pituitary tumor (i was also having insane headaches).
Bloodwork was re-run last week (fasting, 1st morn) and was totally normal - i think the dr said my prolactin levels are 15...
If you test was not run 1st thing/fasting ask dr if he can write you a script to re-do the test at a local lab.
