i have a toenail fungus

its on one toe. this has been going on for over a year - it seemed to be getting a little better and i was using topical med but stopped when i got my BFP because the effects are unknown but this thing is gross and its worse now. i want to get rid of it by summer.

i got it from a crappy pedi place. A while ago a doc had suggested oral med Lamisil but said id' need to go for weekly blood tests - i didn't like the sound of anything that harsh on the liver. any suggestions - plllleeeaassee ???

A LOT of people have toenail fungus and don't even realize it. They think their nails are just discolored. Vicks is supposed to clear it up, but it takes a few months. Just rub it on your toenail everyday. Tea tree oil also helps, you can find that at health food stores.

There is a pill called Lamisil that someone I know used that cleared it up. See a podiatrist!

I thought I heard soaking it in Listerine was supposed to help too. GL

I had a fungus...its was just white spots that would appear on my toenail surface and I just kept filing/buffing it off while applying the topical stuff from the Dr. For now, see if you can buff them and then paint w/clear nailpolish. Sorry this might not work for curing it but maybe it can cover it while preggo. Then go back on the med after the baby.

i had one too, and i've been using Vicks also- it definitely seems to be making a difference. I put it in the crease of the nailbed, and underneathe the nail, too (i use the little metal thingy on the nail clipper to push it down). I'm not PG, and i still wouldn't take lamisil. a toe fungus isnt dangerous to your health, just annoying- but those medications can really do significant damage to the liver

thank you - i'm going to get some vicks today. i dont like the idea of the lamisil pills because of the liver damage risk... not worth it.

this may sound weird but Monistat should also work - Ive known a couple of people who have used it

I have one more question....can you put the vicks on over nail polish or do you need to take the nail polish off first?

I am not sure what you can use while PG> I checked out Tea Tree oil earlier in my PG for my skin & I was warned against using it. Here is the report from the Mayo Clinic:

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Not enough scientific information is available to recommend tea tree oil during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Animal studies suggest caution in the use of tea tree oil during childbirth because tea tree oil has been reported to decrease the force of spontaneous contractions, which theoretically could put the baby and mother at risk. Women who are breastfeeding should not apply tea tree oil to the breast or nipple since it may be absorbed by the infant.
