I have carseat in an airplane questions...

what are the regualtions as far as the carseat on the airplane.

Is there a size limit? Is it different per airline? do you HAVE to bring a seat? Do some airlines have booster seats (my DH told me this?).

I am flying this week and want to bring my britax marathon on for the flight so Talia can sit (and hopefully sleep) in it.

TIA for any info you may have.

I think you should be ok bringing your seat. Depending on the size of the plane, it may be a tight fit. Did you buy her a seat? I've never seen/heard of the booster seat that Dh is talking about.

I'm not sure about regulations, but we've used the Britax Marathon on a plane and it worked out fine. I would definitely bring it if you're buying a seat anyway, it really helped my DS stay put and relax, just like in the car.

I have never heard about airplanes offering boosters.

You don't *have* to use a carseat on the airplane, you can buckle them in the belt if they can sit up on their own. Any carseat is fine as long as it has an FAA approved stamp on it. The airline doesn't provide booster seats.

What about toddler carseats? Are they even too big to fit in the seat?

What's a toddler carseat?A convertible seat? If that's what you mean, they fit, just sometimes a bit snug. If it doesn't fit, you can always gate check it.

Re: I have carseat in an airplane questions...

Beth - Elal told my dh that they have booster seats - I am going to call them today to talk to them about it and I'll let you know what they say....my plan is to bring the Britax so I am happy to hear other moms have done it. Although we have traveled a lot this is the first time with her having her own seat so I am confused.

Anyone bring a car seat on southwest or Delta (we have 2 other trips coming up as well).

eta: Beth - I just read this online

A final note: Avoid using booster car seats on airplanes — children may be crushed against them if their airline seat suddenly flops forward under pressure. That's why booster seats are banned during takeoff, landing, and turbulence.

Yeah, I said something about Booster seats last night and DH said that he read somewhere they aren't allowed. I just can't see our convertible seat fitting on a plane seat though. But, I have no idea how Alex will sleep on the 12 hour flight if she doesn't have something - she certainly can't sit up on the seat by herself the whole 12 hours.

Former Southwest flight attendant here.... Britax most definitely fit in our seats. We recommend bringing your own seat- it is safer.

Re: I have carseat in an airplane questions...

We brought a Boulevard, and a Wizard (precursor to the Boulevard) on SouthWest this year. No problems fitting. I think the Boulevard is one of the biggest seats available. If you put the armrest up, there's even more room available.

Booster seats are just to position DC higher up, so the shoulder straps falls across their chest, not their neck or head. With only a lap belt, I don't see how a booster seat would do anything?
