A lot of you SAY you would've said something -- me being one of that camp.

The point is that, thrown into the situation and depending on different variables -- would you feel comfortable doing something about it?

Would a woman say something?
Would a man say something?
Would it make a difference depending on the guy's age/height/build/race/etc?

If the guy was average size and dressed in business-wear I'd probably feel more comfortable confronting them than if he was huge and and dressed like a mobster.

No, not probably, DEFINITELY.

Let's not attack this girl for not doing anything.
But let's all agree with the fact that we don't know for certain if it had been us... if we would've felt comfortable going up to them.

For all we know - she could've walked up to them to 'just ask' if the girl was okay and have the guy pull out a knife and shank her.

This shtt happens.

Right?

And I'm not saying that other factors would change things for me...

But to pretend like people don't have prejudices is ignorant in itself.

How old the girl was... what she was dressed like... what they look like...

These like all make a difference in what the 'average' passerby would do.

This girl just came on to share something. I think it's mean to dig in on her...

Totally agree. One of my friends (female) was in a similar situation not too long ago trying to help a girl out in a parking garage that was being physically assaulted by a man and that man turned around and beat the sh&t out of my friend for trying to help her out. You just never know what people are capable of.

If it was me, I probably would have stuck around just to make sure she was OK....Or if you were afraid why didn't you call the cops. Honestly, I think its a shame that you did NOTHING

I agree. I would have stuck around to ask if she was OK too. What if you see on the news tonight that someone was killed or kidnapped or something where they were?

And IMO, (and flame me if you want) I think it is totally disgusting and appalling that you raced to sign onto LIF and post this. In the least, call 911 to report it!

um, actually you don't call 911 for something like that.

911 = emergencies only

311 = non emergency line

someone screaming is not an emergency. if the guy was physically beating the woman on the street, then it would be an emergency.

ignorant people calling 911 for non emergencies keeps cops, firefighters, emts from actually being at emergencies when they're needed.

i don't blame the op for not stepping in and doing something. you never know what people are capabale of!

i probably would have called the cops or tried to find one tho...

I think anyone attacking the OP needs to back off a little. She said she feels sick about it. And it's very easy to say what you would do but put in that situation is very different. I don't think I would have done anything if they were just yelling at each other. If one of them was physically aggressive or looked like they were hurt, then it's a different story.

Thanks for this, I appreciate it.

I am of the ilk that I DON'T pass by, and I DO say something. First off, I just THOUGHT it seemed fake...but there really was no way to know.

If someone was calling a person the N word, or taking about ethnicity I would not have HESITATED.

But when you have a large man, and a girl is yelling at him...it makes you think about what he COULD do to ME if I said something. I really was afraid that he could turn on ME.

And believe me, I had a good 20 seconds to think about it.

There has to be a point where MY safety is more important than this girls. I wont apologize for that.

But I will say, again, I'm sick over it. I have balls of steel.....I say what I think. But I ALSO have to take my safety into account too.

just to clarify, I wasn't attacking the OP. My commentary was on the show doing more harm than good if it causes people to dismiss situations where they could have helped because they think its fake or don't want to be on TV.

I don't know what I would have done in the situation, but I'd like to think I would have at least asked if she was ok (from a safe distance) or watched for a few minutes to make sure it didn't escalate.

No one's safety is compromised by calling the cops.

I just don't see why you wouldn't.

Eh-why not err on the side of caution, tell them what you saw/heard and let them investigate.

What's the harm in it?

No problem. No offense.

And the fact is I dont know what I would have done and it happened to me.

I'm an actor and it JUST seemed fake. It had that fake element to it.

I honestly didnt know what to do, but I was also affraid that he COULD come after me.

Fair enough.

look, we can all be Monday morning quaterbacks on this. The reason I came on is find out opinions on what YOU would do.

I'm not a panic person. Im actually really good in a crisis. In this instance I just COULD NOT think. It didnt even enter my mind to call the cops because all that was happeneing was her yelling.

AND, I thought it could be fake.

But its a good lesson for all of us. What would you do?

1. Call the cops.
2. See if she is ok.
3. Yell at him.
4. Tell her to get out.
5. (from above: Get involved)
6. Say nothing.

So its a good lesson for all of us in a situation like this.

I chose my safety...but at that EXACT moment, that's all I could think of (the 2 choices). Say something and possibly have the guy attack me, or walk away with my safety in tact.

Hard, hard decisions in a split second.

i ALWAYS would think twice about it and choose my safety over others. i work in a neighborhood where saying or doing the wrong thing can get you shot, unfortunately im dead serious. that said, i would have hung out a little out of view and observed them for a little while more. if i noticed that he was threatening her, i'd definitely call the cops but not involve myself. i've done that before. if she kept carrying on and he didnt do anything, i probably wouldnt have called.

For me, no way amd I doing 2:5. I am doing number 1-calling the cops.

Like you said-you don't want to get hurt, she is not currently hurt from what you observed. But I just can't do number 6 either.

We can ponder what we all would have done in that situation, but the situation has so, so many variables, like you said.

Soooo easy to judge sitting behind a computer. What is she reporting to 911?? A girl yelling? No one was actually being beaten

Wow jump off the pedastal-
When I read it I thought-No one was being beaten at the time too. The alleged victim was confronting her alleged abuser. No blows were flying so NO I cant say that I would have done anything either at that point.

I have called 911 on someone getting their butt beaten over in Elmont. Gave the cops his description and the girls'. Interesting enough a motorist who was witnessing the same thing told me that is why men going to jail...because people like me are calling the cops instead of letting couples settle their own disputes.Chat Icon Needless to say I told him a few choice words including telling the young lady who was a passenger in his car to get out while she canChat Icon

Anyways--OP dont let this eat you up-Its a situaton no one knows what they would do if they were in it.
