Re: I just heard McCain's possible running mate is...
And people who say he should have "black or black female, or female" running mate, just to keep up with the Democrats should be ashamed of themselves. He should choose who is best for the job, no matter what sex, age, race, religion, or sexual preference. This is something WE all should do.

Of course. The fact that race and gender are such an issue in this race only shows how far we have NOT come.
Though I would be happy if he could choose a black person or a female among qualified candidates. I think it would be a HUGE step for us if either way the election went, we were able to open a door for others.

The guilt thing didn't come from my mouth. I'm not sure where I read/heard it. I'm in election news 24/7. I also think it was more meant to describe swing voters. I don't think hardcore republicans are going to feel guilty not voting for the liberal black dude.
Why should anyone feel guilty for who they vote for? It's their choice. I don't feel guilty because I am not voting for Obama or Hillary, but it's not because he is black and she is a female. No matter what decision I make I will never feel guilty for it.

Well I suppose "good job" is subjective, but Clinton has said that she would like Colin Powell to work for her administration if she were to be President.
I like that! powell is not what i necessarily label as bush admin. (as in the negative sense). I feel like he left when he realized he didn't like what was going on.

Re: I just heard McCain's possible running mate is...
Ok this is where I first heard it..Bob Costas on Bill Maher's show:
COSTAS: [overlapping] No. I had heard this idea suggested today, that a possible running mate for McCain would be Condoleezza Rice. MAHER: Yeah. COSTAS: Now, you think about this— MAHER: [overlapping] Ooh. Wow. COSTAS: [overlapping]—this would ease – this would ease the consciences— MAHER: [overlapping] Right. COSTAS: [overlapping]—of those who honestly believe they have no objection to an African American or a woman— MAHER: [overlapping] [he laughs] Right. COSTAS: [overlapping]—but they differ on policy. MAHER: Right. COSTAS: Well, there – there you score both those objections. MAHER: [overlapping] And – and she plays the piano. [laughter] GOLDBERG: But, this whole conversation, right, this whole conversation sort of supports my point, which is that we’re talking about these racial and gender identity politics games, and we’re talking about personal authenticity. And all these things are relevant and worthwhile to talk about in American politics, but they don’t really constitute political substance, do they? MAHER: Okay, let me— DOWD: [overlapping] No, but, I think – I think what they do is they expose – what I think is good about this, is they expose the rifts in this country that most of us don’t like to talk about, that exist in this country. And that’s what I think – why Barack Obama, honestly, is speaking to the majority of this country about healing all that. Because all those rifts have surfaced at a level that we haven’t seen in a long time. GOLDBERG: Yeah, but the nice thing about Barack Obama is he’s not running as a black president. MAHER: Right. [voices overlap] DOWD: I agree with that. [applause] GOLDBERG: Hillary talks— MAHER: You know what? You may say that racism is less prevalent than sexism. But, boy, it had to be just the right black guy. I mean, he is running the “Jackie Robinson” campaign, right? [laughter] I mean, he – like, just the way they had to have – you would know better than most – they had to have just the right black guy—

I like to think that just b/c something comes out of the mouth of a person in the media, that it is not a thought in the collective conscious.
this is just too stupid to even think someone is going to feel guilt...
anyone bigoted enough to make their vote solely based on race or sex is not going to feel a shred of guilt.
anyone that doesn't care about sex or race but only about platform is not going to feel guilty either.
it's just more media propaganda. more fluff in the face of substance.
it's like yentah-ing-only it's on the grandest of scales.

Re: I just heard McCain's possible running mate is...
I said I heard it. I didn't say i agree with it, though I would be happy if there were a woman and/or a black person on the other side.
I think there might be some people who would feel guilty. People who are truly on the fence and would not want to stand in the way of the first female or black president. I'm not sure though. I mean for me, if I black woman were running republican against a male WASP democrat, that alone would not make me change my vote, though I do think I would feel sad that we couldn't have it all.

I agree with you again. I had to google who Bob Costas even was... he's a sportscaster.

Bob Costas was also saying he heard it thrown around, not that he agreed with it. Maybe he heard it from O'Reilly.

On another note - there are many "Bush Administration" folks that are doing good jobs in other depts that will surely be around no matter who takes the Oval Office.
LIke who? LIke what good jobs?
I'm talking about ordinary public administration folks that survive many different administrations. I'm not talking cabinet members.

we can...just not this term. we haven't had it all since President Jefferson if you ask me...and even he was flawed!
I honestly don't care any which way but loose what color or sex they are.
whomever is the (wo) "man" for the job is fine with me.
I think we have come a long way. and we will continue to go further as long as people don't see this as a special instance, but the beginning of a norm.

I don't think that will happen until someone breaks this ice.
For example, i think we would have heard MORE about Kerry's religion in 2004 if JFK hadn't broken that ice.
