I know nothing about formula but have a question-regarding different types
If i were to switch my EBF'd DS to formula wouldn't it just make sense to use one of the sensitive/gentle formulas? what i mean is that it seems so many babies seem to have trouble on "regular" formula with gas/colicky behavior. i am petrified of that since i already had a EBF'd DD who was very colicky. i have to go back to work this time eventually and can't pump so formula it is-but i don't want to send his digestive system into a tailspin. TIA for ANY info you can offer!

Re: I know nothing about formula but have a question-regarding different types
It makes perfect sense.
When DD wasn't gaining weight at 2weeks we switched from EBF to Similac Sensitive RS for that same reason. Formula feeding is trial and error - what works for one may not work for another. See if the doctor recommends anything (if you want his/her opinion) or just try a formula out with your DC and see how it goes. You might want to wait a few weeks to see how your DC actually reacts to the formula since you are switching from EBF and it take a little while for the body to adjust.
Good luck!

Re: I know nothing about formula but have a question-regarding different types
i think that's a great idea, especially for young babies. DS did really well on enfamil gentlease (and the target kind) until he got older, when we switched him to "regular" formula. the only drawback is the cost! the target form of gentlease is the same thing but cheaper, so i would try that.

It really depends on the baby. DS did not do well on the regular enfamils/similacs and did not do well on the gentle enfamils/similac but does great with goodstart. I think it's just trial and error.

Re: I know nothing about formula but have a question-regarding different types
I can barely remember
Neither one was colicky but I think we went with the Gentlease because DS was prone to gas.
After a few cans of the brand name I switched to the Target version of Gentlease... it's a generic and several dollars less per can.
Now I am having flashbacks to the tandem feeding... bottle propping the second while trying to get a burp out of the first one before the second had to burp... the juggle

That's exactly what we had to do. It was trial and error to see which formula worked best but Similac Sensitive R.S. worked best for us.

Re: I know nothing about formula but have a question-regarding different types
We asked our PED about this when DS was a baby.
He said that unless there are specific issues, they always babies with the "basic" formula then go from there.

Re: I know nothing about formula but have a question-regarding different types
I liked Goodstart because it has no gross formula smell and they say it's the closest oned to BM.All of their formulas are considered and labled "gentle" formulas. My kids did well with the transition from BM to Goodstart. And if you sign up for their mailing list you get $11 off coupons which I stack at Target. So it's BOGO free
