That's the new line from Sharp that's really thin. Go for it, that's one nice looking LCD.

We just bought one recently through a friend at PC Richards. He said the Sony's were extremely overpriced. We ended up buying a Samsung (which he said was every bit as good as the Sony) and we've been totally thrilled with it.

we bought the philips with the ambient light - my brother did a lot of research for me and he said this was the best one. . . and PCRichards was having a sale so it was perfect ( with or without the ambient light )

Re: I know nothing about LCD tvs can someone help me
I think 1080p right now is not a good investment as there unless you plan on purchases and utlizeing alot of HD-DVD and Blu-Ray type technolgy (both movies and games)
Ok, yeah 1080p looks the best but those two above formats are the only "true" signals to watch it. You can upconvert signals but sometimes, it could look worse.
Will you notice a difference? yeah if you are coming from a regular tv.
Can you save money? Of course, save a bunch of money by buying 1080i....
Should I get a 1080p if its priced right? Sure...
Alot of people have stuck in their head that I need 1080P.... Its not for everyone and depending on cost, it could strecth you a long way... I hate TV commericals showing you stuff in 1080P but no cablebox or satitille output that way..Like I said above, 1080P can be acheived by a upconverison which the TV can make it look better. Some enthusisast want a true signal...
With that being said, what is your said budget and do you plan on doing next generation movies?
