I know this has been asked - a good book to read to first graders
My son has said no to most of the ones I've suggested in the past because - he's looking for something different.
He's squashed the following:
The Day the Crayons Came Home
The Day the Crayons Quit
Anything by Mo Willems
Anything by Todd Parr
The Book with No Pictures
Anything Fly Guy
He's looking for me to read something light and fun that the kids will laugh at. I'm thinking possibly Dr. Seuss (but not One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Cat in the Hat or Green Eggs and Ham)?
Any suggestions?

Ooh - that's a good one...
The author of Pete the Cat is coming to the school for a visit during PARP so I'm thinking he will shoot that down though

I know this has been asked - a good book to read to first graders
How about Ten Pigs: An Epic Bath Adventure
by Derek Anderson
it's a real simple book but my Kindergartner finds it really funny.

i was "mystery reader" for my son's kindergarten class, and read "Press Here"... its cute, and interactive... the kids can each come up and do something on the page.
i also read "Count the Monkey" by Mac Barnett... and that was a hit, too

"Sam and Dave dig a hole"- my DS LOVES this book - a mom read it to his class when he was in 1st grade and he begged me to buy it and a year later its on our nighttime reading rotation.
"Iggy Peck Architect" - another one he loves.

We have decided to read either Memoirs of a Goldfish, Memoirs of a Hamster, Iggy Peck Architect, or The Missing Piece.
