I learned my lesson I will always double check our prescriptions!
My son started a refill On Saturday and asked why they changed the pill. I thought it looked the same and left it at that. Finally on Monday when the meeds weren't working and my son insisted it was a different pill, I checked...and he was right. Worse it turns out the pill was an adult dose diuretic used to lower blood pressure/not even approved for any se with children class C Drug. If he had continue to take it who knows what would have happened. There is no real way to tell if any permanent damage was done and I am so upset.
The bottle was labeled with his name and correct prescription name, but the pills inside were different!
If you don't already, check the labels!

I am so sorry, that is awful!!! Did you speak to the ped? What do they say?
Was it CVS? I am really curious b/c alot of people seem to complain about this with them.
I hope he is ok.

Re: I learned my lesson I will always double check our prescriptions!
Yep it was CVS. And when I called they looked the drug up immediately and then told me the drug was a diuretic and there was no real concern other than dehydration. They neglected to tell me anything else, even when pressed about it they just said it caused insomnia and dehydration. I had to do all the research on my own and the regional manager admitted that they handled it poorly and that they needed to contact all my son's doctors to explain to them the severity of the situation. I found that interesting.

I just told my husband this story and he wants me to ask you what CVS it was because he gets all his prescriptions filled at CVS!

Jeruselem Ave North Bellmore and when I told this story to another mother in the area she told me that they did not mix one of her son's antibiotics correctly so she switched!

Re: I learned my lesson I will always double check our prescriptions!
Thanks everyone...I am very grateful that he was so observant. He would have gotten a month of pills that could have shut down his little body. Hopefully nothing went wrong so quickly. We are considering testing his potassium levels and kidney functioning, but hopefully that is not necessary.

Re: I learned my lesson I will always double check our prescriptions!
I remember a mom who mentioned a similar story a while back with her child too.
Then other posters said they had similar incidents.
It was CVS too.
It appears they make a lot of mistakes.
It's so scary!!!!

i had a problem there too.....not as severe but still, you trust them to fill your medication and then they blow it off when it is wrong!!
good thing your son noticed!

That is unacceptable!!
I get High blood pressure meds from CVS. They come in blister packs. After taking 1/2 the month supply, I realized on Saturday that the blister pack I was currently taking EXPIRED! No idea if what I was taking all month was expired or not.
Ridiculous that they take a 1/2 hour to fill a prescriiption that is counting out blister packs and they cant even check the expiration date.
I think I will be double checking all pills from now on.

Re: I learned my lesson I will always double check our prescriptions!
This totally stinks, and with my husbands insurance we HAVE to go to CVS we aren't allowed to go elsewhere to have our prescriptions filled which I think is insane

Re: I learned my lesson I will always double check our prescriptions!
Omg they gave your child a diuretic???? Without asking peronal questions about what your son was supposed to be taking, that is very serious! Thankfully he didn't take the med long term because there truly could have been major medical consequences depending on what dose and which med. I would not let this go.

Re: I learned my lesson I will always double check our prescriptions!
I wanted to add(can't edit post on iPad) that his ped should def test kidney function and potassium levels(routine blood test) just to make sure he dosent need extra hydration or electrolytes.

Thats what I am wondering... He was only on it three days so my pediatrician is not that concerned...What makes you think so?

Re: I learned my lesson I will always double check our prescriptions!
That is insane!! I would have lost my mind on CVS.
Someone once told me to always check the prescription when you get home. To look up online what it is supposed to look like and make sure it matches and that the lables are correct, etc. I laughed at them then and called them "paranoid" but now with a child I realize it has to be done and I now do that all the time.
So crazy, but glad the dr. said he will be ok

Since the doc knows his meds and underlying medical history and is not concerned than he should be fine. Just a scary situation!
