Re: I might ruffle feathers with this, but......

OK, I only skimmed the post, but one thing that really bothers me is the deamonizing of Planned Parenthood. I'm not familiar with the alleged case she talking about, but PP does much more than provide services to women dealing with unplanned pregnancies. PP provides affordable well woman care to women who may not get care otherwise. They also provide contraception and contraception counseling to help avoid the very thing that the original poster seems to opposed to -- abortion. So, I think it is completely ignorant and misguided to call what they do "genocide."

This just such a stupid deabte

OK...I really don't understand your point.
Slavery was once legal and a lot of people were pro-slavery. Did that make the emancipation movement a "stupid debate"?

here's a debate for you... my opinion is that you'll see dead babies in trash cans everyday on the news if Roe v Wade is overturned. do you have any clue what it was like when abortion was illegal and women died horrible deaths from back alley abortions?

IMO, people like you (self righteous) are NOT pro life, you are ANTI CHOICE!

yes, clearly it IS a sensitive issue for many.... But i dont see how Preaching (just as much) for the other side of the argument makes you any better. If you're anti-preaching, then it's not really coming across that way in your posts, because i feel like your just preaching YOUR agenda... and though i share the same view as you as far as Pro-choice goes, your methods seem just as extreme as those that you're fighting against.

and, really, i dont see the use for name calling... but hey, that's your choice.

you're right, I am also preaching. I just cannot believe that a woman, much less in this day and age would be anti choice and hide behind the pro life label.

I would LIKE to believe that it's because they have no awareness of what used to happen before it was legal Chat Icon

think about how you felt when waterspout posted that thread. That's pretty much how you're making pro-lifers feel right now, so what makes you any better than her? just because it was in defense? just because you believe in your beliefs? Obviously we all feel strongly about our beliefs... but you felt the need to belittle a person, call her names (and then others that agreed with her) for posting something about her beliefs... and now you're doing the same thing that you were just Condemning. Sorry, i just don't agree with your methods.

Again, I think the point is being missed. The topic itself yes is sensitive, but I think the issue here and why so many girls were/are offended is WHERE she posted her topic. FHF.. fine.. TTC.. TOTALLY UNCALLED FOR! No sense arguing about pro life/pro choice.. its like arguing about pro Bush in the whitehouse/pro a sesame street character in the whitehouse. People are entitled to their opinions, but she should have been more considerate of where she chose to voice it. There, I'm done... cheechee... out!

cheechee- i completely agree with you about the TTC board- i think that everyone is on the same page as that. Yes, there are people who were or werent offended by the placement of it, and all of them are completely Valid in their feelings and beliefs- its no one else's place to tell them how to feel. BUT, this is the thread that's on FHF, and people are being called names and judged based on their beliefs. and the debate isn't over the placement of the thread.. its over the thread itself. you say it's ok for her to post her belief and opinions here, yet it's not ok for me to post an opposing opinion or to challenge their belief? Chat Icon

Never said you couldn't post your opposing opinion- i do it all the time... i'm doing it right now. What i said was:

people are being called names and judged based on their beliefs.

there's a big difference IMO. And to me, the latter seems like a form of discimination, and if nothing else, Immaturity. To call people names because of what they believe in is COMPLETELY different than simply stating that you have an opposing view.. again, IMO.

if you're categorizing "self righteous" as name calling, that's fine. I don't see it that way. I feel that the original poster was WAY out of line posting this on TTC and I guess my anger over that carried over onto FHF. It’s a confrontational subject, but on TTC it is ludicrous! like I said earlier, this is a highly sensitive topic for a lot of people. And I never would have posted any of these things out of the clear blue.

I am pro-choice but could never personally have an abortion. unless something horrible were to (God forbid) happen.

my problem is with people who are against the choice in itself. because women will have abortions whether its legal or not. so it may as well remain legal so that history doesn't repeat itself.

see... i completely agree with EVERYTHING that you're saying... i just feel like your argument lost credibility when you started acting in the same manner of that which you were opposing.

and honestly, i Do feel bad... because just as we are exchanging our opinions and beliefs here.. Someone got completely flamed for doing the same thing. And whether it was a 'sob story' or not, i would Never wish a brain tumor on my worst enemy. I dont think that it makes it OK to lash out at people, but i cant imagine how i'd be feeling if i just found that out, posted something that had 'meaning' to me (which, yes, i still dont get what the meaning was of that... but still, it had meaning to her)... Only to have people start calling me names.

And i do think that we are a very caring community here.. Truly, i do.... but i'll be completely honest here and say that i was in AWE of how much people cared more about being right, than being sensitive. No, i don't think it's an 'excuse' or a crutch.. but i mean C'mon... its a BRAIN TUMOR. i've seen the complications of that First hand.... and if thats not a reason to cut someone some slack, then i don't know what is. I find some of the replies posted have been illogical, which I think undercuts a person's credibility and does nothing to advance their position in a debate. Many posts on this board do make pro-lifers to seem like "idiots" or religious zealots.
My position on this issue does not emanate from a lack of awareness or my religious beliefs. Rather, it stems from my examination of the biology and the beginnings of life.

I just had a baby 6 months ago. He was not just a pile of cells until I delivered. He had a beating heart (21 days post conception) before I ever knew I was pregnant. I am adamant in my belief that a unborn child's fundamental right to life should be protected by the law.

I am not going to debate this issue further b/c I will not change anybody's minds, nor will you ever be able to change my mind. However, pease refrain from stating or implying that I am an ignorant person based on my beliefs. It is far from the truth and it is not appreciated.
