I need a reward system for my 6th grade class
I am a first year teacher and at the behinng of the year I implemented a behavior plan but I do not like how it's going.
I give the kids points after every period of the day and at the end of the day, we count up their points and they can trade them in for things- candy, prizes from the dollar store..
It's just way too hard to keep it together though. It's hard to take out time to give them points each period and at the end of the day, we very often run out of time to add them up and distribute the candy or prizes. I can't use the entire period being the candy/prize girl. I need something quick that works.
Anyone have any ideas? They really like getting candy.

Re: I need a reward system for my 6th grade class
I know what you mean, I started a reward system and had to stop it because it consumed too much time to keep track of, right now im trying to figure out what else can work so im open to hearing some suggestions from people as well

Re: I need a reward system for my 6th grade class
I stole mine from a wonderful teacher on here (thanks Christine!).
I teach 6th too and I give them fake money.
For any test, quiz, or journal that they get an A on they get $2
For handing in all of their homework for the week they get $1
For random acts of kindness or good behavior they get $1-$5 - at my discretion.
The kids monitor it themselves. So if they lose the money - too bad!
They use the money for points on tests, quizzes, projects, etc. Or at the end of each quarter I hold a raffle and $1 = 1 raffle entry.
The next quarter I change the color of the money and the old money isn't valid.
It's easy to manage. I staple $$ to tests, quizzes, that got A's. And I staple $$ to homework if they are all completed.
Thats all I do. They take it from there.
Works really well!!! I'm having my first raffle this Friday and the kids are really excited about it!!

Wow thanks that sounds like a great idea! And it's works especially well since the new marking period has just begun.
Do you have a template for what the dollars look like?
