I need help planning the best bridal shower

for my SIL. I have some ideas but don't want to post since she might lurk in here. I would love some of your ideas. Pretty please. I have some time since it probably won't be until nov or dec (the wedding is 2/2011). And for the size of wedding she's having I am assuming there will be 30-35 people invited to the shower.

OMG I am in the same boat! My sister is getting married 12/2011 and she is very fussy. Need to find a location for like 60 women! Maybe we can help each other.

Re: I need help planning the best bridal shower

Well first, do you want it out in a restaurant or is this something you would like to host in your house?

That time of year a holiday or winter themed shower could be beautiful! Poinsetta centerpieces, ornament favors, that sort of thing? Something wintery with those white branches (I love them!) and snow people (it doesn't have to be cartoony).

In general, I'd suggest booking early-ish because it's a busy time of year for holiday parties. And also get the word out b/c people are busy that time of year.

Re: I need help planning the best bridal shower

My shower was January 6, 2008. Since it was right after Christmas, instead of a wishing well with typical stuff, my mom sent a cute poem asking for ornaments for our 1st Christmas tree together! It was such a great idea, and big hit! I got great ornaments, some personalized, of all different stuff, sports, etc! It was great! Just an idea for you too!!!

Re: I need help planning the best bridal shower

Also, this is just my opinion, my wedding was in March and my mom did my shower Jan 6th, since your sisters is in Feb, is it beginning of Feb, middle or end, because this would play a role in when you should have her shower. The holidays are a busy time for people, not to mention, expensive! Keep that in mind as well. If it's end of Feb, you could totally have her shower beginning of January, but if it's in the begging, I would consider doing it either the week before Thanksgiving or the week after! I don't think it's too early and people will totally understand! I wouldn't do it after the 1st week of Dec though!

Re: I need help planning the best bridal shower

I'm thinking having it at a restaurant. And to make matters a little more complicated, she's in brooklyn. The wedding is 2/19/11. Timing is another issue I'm having. Our nephews b-days are in Nov (one party for both), my god child's b-day is also in Nov, and Thanksgiving. So Nov is a prob out of the question. I'm trying to avoid December with the holidays. And I think January might be too close, but they already live together so it might work. I'm leading more towards a wintery theme than a chrismassy theme.

Based on all the other parties, I'd plan the shower for early January. I don't think it's too close. It's not like a baby shower where the baby can be born at any time or the mom-to-be gets too uncomfortable.

Plus people are less stressed with more free time and would more likely enjoy a party then having to squeeze something else in during an already hectic time. Plus they'll be able to take advantage of the after holiday sales! Chat Icon

I was looking at Matteos in Long Beach...the lowest priced menu theu have is 32.95 but the location is nice, right across from the beach. Do you have a theme in mind? My sister wants a "tea party" theme, which is a little restricting but also helpful.

Re: I need help planning the best bridal shower

You could ask the guests to bring their favorite recipes and start a recipe collection for her. Maybe even base it on winter type meals (soups, chilis, stews, etc.).

I was going to second the Christmas ornament idea, but you said you don't want to do a Christmas theme.

Maybe look for a location with a fireplace. You can use white, silver, and light blue as a color scheme. Add white Christmas lights to the room. White wood tree branches as centerpieces or for the table assignments (if you'll have that). Sparkly snowflakes hanging around the room would be a nice touch.

You could do hot chocolate with a fixings bar (marshmallows, chocolate spoons, etc).

My wedding was January 8th - it was a huge help in planning the wedding in terms of places are often decorated still but will also take down their trees, etc.

We held my SIL's shower at Jani (a chinese food restaurant). While it was unconventional & I was against it at first, I have to say - least expensive place to throw a shower - seriously like $12.95/pp. I was able to take the rest of the money I planned on chipping in & put it toward the extras.

If you do the ornament thing - you should get a small table top tree - maybe a white one - and have everyone hang there ornaments on the tree - bring some extra hooks in case people forget.
Maybe you could get some white Mr. & Mrs. stockings to hang by the fireplace and people can put wishes or recipes in them?
