Re: I need ideas for driving distance trip
We've done long trips with DD since she was 6 weeks old.
We did one at around 9 months last May and she was pretty good. During the day, we stopped every 2-3 hours for about 30 minutes to let her stretch. We brought lots of car toys. One of us sat in the back to keep her company most of the trip. We brought CDs.
Some people use the mini DVD players-she wasn't into it then but we will try on the next trip.
Also, I would try leaving in the middle of the night while the are sleeping.

Re: I need ideas for driving distance trip
We went to the White Mountain region of NH last year with family, we had kids ranging from 7 months (DS) to 6 years. And we all had a great time. We rented a condo which was nice because we made breakfast and could wash bottles etc. It was a long trip (I think 6 hours) but we drove to Orient, took the ferry and then drove like 4 to break it up. DS did great. I think they have a website visitwhitemountains.com lots to do!
Or at that age Montauk, mystic, block island….just pack them in the car and go!
ETA: Sorry I guess I miss understood..I though tyou wanted trip ideas - like where to go!
Anyway last year we bought a DVD player with Wiggles and baby einstein for DS, toys, books, snacks, bottles. I also sat with him in the back. DS doesnt really sleep in the car so he was up the whole time. Breaking up the trip with the ferry ride or a long lunch is a good idea or a side trip to a town on the way to your destination.

Re: I need ideas for driving distance trip
try to go during their nap time or bed time so they can sleep most of the ride in the car. We traveled with my DD when she was 7 months old for a 9 hour drive. So we left at night and when we stopped for gas in the middle she woke up i gave her a snack and she fell back asleep.

Re: I need ideas for driving distance trip
We go to VA every 2-3 months and try to leave around 4 am to make the 7 hour trip. It allows at least 2-3 hours of sleep time, then we stop and get a bite but we eat in the car, it helps take up another 30 minutes to an hour. DVD player and CDs help and try to engage DS in independent play ( DoodlePro is a great invention).
