Donna I don't know the area at all, but I threw a couple of parties in a local pub. They actually did a really nice job and were really affordable. Have you tried those types of places?

Re: I NEED serious Christening party help....
Donna, I know it is so frustrating - but what I would do personally is not have a big thing. There is no need for you to have all of this stress for a party. Even if you get someplace that has $15.00 pp - there are always a million other things that add up, and you'll end up spending a ton of $$ that you don't want to.
Talk to Dh's family and explain the situation. Have a kick azz first birthday party. They will understand!!

Re: I NEED serious Christening party help....
How about a town rec center? I know my town rents theirs and they range from $250-$300 for five hours. They provide a full kitchen, chairs and tables. You do the cooking (or catering).
Oops, I see someone else suggested that already.

This is crazy.
On to resturants now, trying to find SOEMTHING around $15 tax included ...where I can then run a bar tab... 550 is cheap, I was quoted 800 for VFW's just for the room, then I have to get waitresses, food, and if you want beer wine and soda its 11 a pp ! for a VFW! we are going with KOC in Oceanside 32 pp plus tax and 18% gratuity. Its insane the prices out there.
for the christening just to think about it with everything added on we payed over 60 pp and had 97 people come! We have no choice even to cut we are still over 100 people, our families are huge. thank god this is it. Her next few parties will be home with immediate family and thats it! when she's 4 and up prob do at a kiddie place like gymboree etc.
good luck, I know what you are going through searching for places.

Re: I NEED serious Christening party help....
I know some VFW have contracts with some caterers and you have to use them to use their hall. It's not that cheap! Food is about $15/person (no alcohol). That's without the cost of the hall.
I say go to a restaurant you like. Negociate a good price and scale down on the number of people.
ETA. Count $15/person for catering, $20/hour per waitress. Usually you need 2 for 100 people.
I used to be do catering on the side.
I remember seeing one bill for a party. It was for the food/waitress/cake... for a sweet 16 for 100 people. Approx. $2,000.00 (tax included). Alcohol was being handled by VFW and not included. That did not include the VFW hall either.
