I need some support... (Lupron related)
Ladies, I'm suppose to go in for my shot to start the treatment this afternoon. It's been a while since I looked at the details about Lupron so I went ahead online. Of course I'm not happy with everything about it, so whatever. But, for the first time I went onto chat type boards for women who have experience with taking Lupron and OMG... I am beyond scared now! To read all of their stories and what it has done to them. Not one, seriously had anything good to say about it. They were saying such horrible things about it. Most were having side effects for years later from it, it causes gland and thyroid problems, it causes miscarriages when you decide to TTC after the treatment, your hair falls out, heart problems, to severe forgetfullness, all the way up to death. How the h@ll am I suppose to go in today to do this after reading all of those things??? If you can think of a side effect it causes it. I know all drugs have side effects, but these were words from real women. All I did last night and this morning was cry. I am beyond devastated about having severe Endo. All I want to be able to do is have another baby in the future. Now I'm scared this is just going to hurt me more. JennyPenny.... if you're reading this, did you see anything online about what other patients said about it? Should I not worry about it? I really am scared. But I don't think I have any other choices. I'm sorry for bringing this topic up, but after reading what I read, I really needed some support.
Thanks for reading!

Re: I need some support... (Lupron related)
Try to keep in mind that most people will post a story about their experience when they've had a bad one - those who have been on Lupron with little to no side effects probably won't bother posting about their experience, so what you are seeing is skewed.
And remember too, it's not forever - it's for a limited period of time. And nothing is etched in stone - if you have a severe reaction, you can always go off of it.
I have endo as well, so my RE put me on it for 3 weeks prior to my IVF cycle, and for me, it was a piece of cake. I had literally no symptoms at all and I'm fine now

I honestly dont know anything about Lupron or the depths of IVF treatments..however, I do know the internet can be a bad thing for your psyche.
take everything with a grain of salt and the best thing would be to discuss this with the dr before getting the treatment. ask if he can list the pros/cons of it.

Re: I need some support... (Lupron related)
I read into in slightly before I started it- but I was only 17-18 when I was on it, so I trusted my doctor. I was on it for 6 months. I DID have some mood swings and hot flashes/night sweats, but I never had my hair fall out, I never had heart problems, etc.
I did have a m/c with my first pregnancy- but I have a slew of other issues that 95% contributed/caused it. I would never put the blame on the Lupron. It cleared up my Endo- and I have not had a problem since.
I honestly think you will be okay. If you are concerned about side effects, speak to your doctor about the possibility of you having them- I know you said you were pretty close with your doc.
You have to think that all of those people could have been on other meds that interfered, they could've had other issues they weren't aware of at the time, they could have been on it for a seriously extended time.
I think i've said this before, but I don't think RE's would use this medication to help aid in IVF protocols if it caused miscarriage or infertility.

Re: I need some support... (Lupron related)
Thank you everyone! I am still really scared, but your posts helped me feel a little better.
It's just so scary to read all the stories you know? I would be fine with taking it for a month, it's just the thought of the not knowing what it will do to ME long term after doing the treatment for 6 months. I was expecting all the side effects to go away after the treatment, for my cycles to return to normal soon after the treatment, being able to TTC afterwards, but according to these people, I will never be the same again and none of these will happen.
I will talk to my doctor this afternoon before and if I decide to go forward with the treatment. We've already talked about it 2 times, so hopefully she won't be annoyed!
I just want this treatment to do what I want it to do, and be done with it and go one to being able to TTC again.
