I need to break this bad habit (parenting)

I feel horrible for what happened this morning.

Every day I get ready and DD is home with me, I let her get on the bathroom counter because she cries and whines to come up. She mimics me putting on powder and mascara and fixing my hair. It's so freaking cute, so I let her do it.

This morning she was screaming for me to give her a brush on the counter, leaned over and fell on the floor, head first Chat Icon She fell on her side head/cheek onto the vent on the floor and started to wail Chat Icon

I held her for awhile while she cried and she calmed down after 5 mins (felt like a year) when I showed her a cookie monster video on my phone.

I went back in to finish getting ready and she started to cry to come back up again!!!! NO WAY, I'm not doing it anymore. She got really upset at first that I wouldn't put her back up but I FINALLY got her distracted quick enough for me to finish up.

I guess a vent and PSA to do what is safe/better regardless of the tantrum DC will throw....I felt like such a horrible parent this morning, I should have NEVER done that and not gotten into the habit of letting her up there Chat Icon Chat Icon

Don't feel horrible, it was an accident!

My BFF used to have her DS stand on the toilet next to the sink and "brush" his teeth when she brushed hers. He slipped and fell between the toilet and the sink cabinet and broke his collar bone. He was under 2 years old at the time. She didn't even know it was broken until a few hours later because he wasn't acting himself and would cry, so she took him to the ER to get checked.

It happens Chat Icon

How old is she? DD is about 11 months. In the morning we put her in the exersaucer in our room and let her watch tv! Maybe you can do something like that or set up an area in the bathroom (on a stool or something) to put some make up brushes for her, kind of like her own little vanity table!
