I hear ya. DH and I recently realized that most of the people in our circle have already done these things, but now it's starting up again with a few acquaintances and some from the younger generation.

One of my friends did all this in two years plus a house warming, baby coming home gtg and the bachelorette party. I felt like she was garnishing my paycheck .

Re: I realize these are all joyous events but come on already
That was us... I felt really guilty. We got married in Aug 2009, so April we had the engagement party, June the shower, then the bachelorette party and wedding then we had a little surprise 3 months after we got married... I was pregnant. So then came the baby shower that summer, then the baby, then the baptism. I felt so bad, everyone was so generous though.

We were in the same situation the year we actually got married, and you know what - they ended up getting divorced!

Us too, lol
You can't really help when things happen! But the way I view it is that I did the same for all my family and friends who went through it (many of them had multiple events within 2 years) and I went to what i could..and i gave what i could afford and hoped people did the same for me!
(And this is a huge reason why i'm not a fan of second baby showers, which is always a debate on these boards...i feel like there is so so much going on all the time, it should really be a one shot deal, lol)

I know and I get it. But I feel like, what goes around, comes around. It all comes back to you in good time.

Re: I realize these are all joyous events but come on already
I didn't have an engagement party and a shower. I just feel that is overkill.
Also, no thank you yet from the wedding 1.5 years later.

Re: I realize these are all joyous events but come on already
Sorry but that was me! Engagement party in July 2002, bridal shower in March 2003, wedding in May 2003, baby shower in Sept 2004, christening in Feb 2005.
My engagement party was pretty low key, at my mom's house and it was pretty informal. But sometimes that's the way it goes in people's life. Everything happens one right after another.

Re: I realize these are all joyous events but come on already
DH and I were engaged for over 2 years. So we had our engagement party early on..not within 6 mo of our wedding..LOL.
but yes, these events can be overkill.
DH cousin years ago..came home saying she was engaged (her and BF had broken up, but apparently got back together.) there was a bridal shower, wedding, & BABY SHOWER, christening, b/c she was preggers, all within a few months.
to this day people in DH's family have not forgotten that said cousin didnt send 1 thankyou card for anything.

Re: I realize these are all joyous events but come on already
I know the feeling. The year I got married I had 8 weddings- One of which was my brothers (2 months before mine) and a bunch of my cousins / very close friends. Count in the bridal showers / bachelorette parties...etc.
2006 was grand.

Yeah maybe if there was an acknowledgment I would feel better.

This was us too. We had an engagement party Sept of 2004, wedding Oct 2005, preggo 3 months later, baby shower July 2006 and then Christening Oct 2006 (we kept the Christening really small)
Sometimes life just happens that way

Re: I realize these are all joyous events but come on already
I've never dealt with this since I'm the only married one in my circle. Still, it wouldn't bother me. I love to give gifts and acknowledge people's special life moments.

Re: I realize these are all joyous events but come on already
Last year we had:
shower, bachelorette party, wedding, housewarming all within 6 months!
That said, while I see how it can add up all of the events you mentioned are major life milestones so it's hard to complain. You can always decline to attend

i know how you feel. I have various events this spring/summer, including 3 weddings that are within 3 weeks of each other! and we feel like we have to go since they all came to our wedding.
