i really do not know what to do!!! WWYD

My ds is going thru a VERY fussy stage. He is 3 months and about 2 weeks ago he started to get very fussy after about 6 pm. At this time he only wants ME. He screams bloody murder with DH and it is so bad. I am going nuts b/c I never get to relax but it is also painful to sit here and listen to him scream to the point where he is getting himself sick. Please help!!! WWYD

what time is his bedtime?

Maybe he's trying to tell you he's tired. Chat Icon

ETA: as for his screaming with your DH. Just a phase. He'll go back and forth between you two. Just make sure your dh keeps trying! Chat Icon

He isn't napping b/c he isn't sleeping at night. Sleep begets sleep. He is probably overtired from not sleeping enough at night, so he doesn't sleep during the dayChat Icon Chat Icon

If he doesn't nap well then I would guess he's tired. When my DS is extra tired, he'll only settle down and fall asleep with me. This actually used to happen in the evenings around 6 bc he would be tired (and he does nap well). It still happens sometimes on weekends and I'm the only one who can settle him and it's hard even for me.

Definitely try an earlier bedtime if you can. At that age they still need about 14-16 hours of sleep per day.

for most babies that age, 10pm is too late. My son was going to bed at 6:30pm at that age. Any later than that and he'd melt down.

If he's not sleeping during the day, definitely do a 6pm bedtime. Chat Icon He's probably so overtired after that point that he's melting down. Try the earlier bedtime for a few nights- 5 nights or so.

Id try to put him to bed earlier but also if you dont have a bedtime routine, i'd start one. my DS eats, bath, wonder pets, swing - sleep.

Sounds like its his witching hour...totally normal...they all have them! You are just going to have to establish a bedtime routine and figure out his tired cues.

Re: i really do not know what to do!!! WWYD

I would try an earlier bedtime. At around 2 months, DS was evil around 7ish Chat Icon & so I was like hmm maybe he's telling me he's just DONE for the day...so I started making his bedtime then. Seemed to be the key. Now it's bottle, book & bed at 7-730 (I still dream feed at 11 though)

ETA- Just wanted to add that my DS has never been a good napper but has always been a good nighttime sleeper, so I don't necessarily believe that in all cases if DC isn't napping during the day that they won't sleep good at night.

Welcome to my world! The past week 7pm hits and DD becomes a different child. We used to do bath and bottle at 8-8:30, now I have to give her a bath by 7 because she is exhausted and wants to go to sleep. She is still STTN she just wants to go to bed earlier so it seems.

I agree with the posters about getting more sleep. My daughter went to sleep at 6pm from about 3mos - 9mos like clockwork. Your child may need to go to sleep at 6pm too.
