We never needed one! The planes usually take care of it!

Kate - I just bought that Homedics sound machine. If you want, I can bring it Friday for to see if it works for C3 before you buy one. Just let me know.

Is he generally a light sleeper? I'd give the 8pm bedtime a shot even when DH is home. He may sleep through him getting ready. If not, maybe a white noise machine would help him?
The issue is the shower. C3's bed and the shower share a wall and that is the only wall his bed can go on (TINY room) he always used to wake up when I showered for work too....and Chris doesn't get up at til 9pm
Have you tried recently. Laila is in a deep sleep an hour after she falls asleep. Maybe he is a better sleeper now.
I would try to get him in at 8. Don't let him nap so late. And try to get him to nap around 1 or so. That seems to work for her. And DH and I can make noise and leave her door open at night and she doesn't wake up. DH is making a lot of noise as I type this.
Also, see if you can get him to nap in his room. I make a big deal about how cool her bed is and how comfy it is. She seems to go for it.

I would try the early bedtime. DD would wake up in the am from a shower but nightime she sleep through a lot and my house is small also. Good luck!

You know our schedules ARE BAD. We both shower at the most inappropriate times AND we have a small place. His bed is on the same wall as the shower. He got used to it. Just live your lives and give it a week. He will get used to it.
I also suggest the white noise machine.
Totaly different subject: I got specially molded ear plugs to wear when I need to sleep. (Obviously not when I am watching him. But when I'm trying to sleep after an overnight.) BEST $75 I have ever spent!!!!!!! DH is going to get his molded in a few weeks. Our ENT does them. Since we need to sleep, shower, everything at all different times, this helps US.

The only solutions I can think of are a white noise machine or ask DH to shower at a different time--if he works nights, maybe when he gets home? You are right, he probably should be going to bed earlier.
