i used to record songs from the radio on to my tape deck.
When tv's were so big they were a piece of furniture.
Knee highs came in plastic eggs.
kids passed paper notes in school instead of texting each other!

I remember when Girl Scout cookies were only $2 a box. Now they are almost $4! I think it's time to try those Keebler Samoa knock offs. With a coupon of course.
I just tried those last week - they were on sale Delicious!

Re: I remember when....
atari with the joystick Nintendo, and duck hunt with the gun The first sega genesis, my brother bought one and we all gathered around it as a family and played for hours. (Can you tell I am a techie geek) .25 For payphone When gas was under $2 a gallon, and milk was even less When you could use the excuse "I didn't have any change" when you didn't call your parents to check in, cause no one had cellphones. When you went to the encyclopedia and the library instead of google.

Re: I remember when....
I remember gas at less than a dollar a gallon.. and my bff and I scrounging the floor for 2 bucks in change to get enough gas to get us home!!
I remember walking up to the crossroads and getting a bag of chips for 25 cents at Almar's deli and a soda for a 50 cents at the beer distributor.
I remember when food markets were not the giant things they are now - they were maybe half the size and didn't have hardly any specialty, international products.. and way less pre-packaged convenience foods.
I remember when tv dinners and pot pies came in metal trays.
I remember when it was 'weird' to see anyone wearing makeup in 6th grade.. and still a novelty to see 7th graders wearing it!
I remember when mini skirts with matching leg warmers were in, when everyone went Ooh La La over Sassoon jeans and when Jordache were the coolest thing ever. I remember when Gloria Vanderbilt introduced black denim and I just about died to have a pair. I remember Z Cavaricci pants, envelope jeans and Capezios. I remember backward V Forenza sweaters and when everyone wanted to wear Gunne Sax dresses to the school dances.
I remember my Commodore 64 and thinking that making it print my name thousands of times in different colors was a fine example of computer programming! LOL
I remember when getting a mixed tape from a guy you liked MEANT something.

Re: I remember when....
I remember gas under $1.00 a gallon
When the electric bill did not consist of power supply charges that were higher then your actual electric bill
Could fill the oil tank in our house for less then $300
Tolls were less then $5.
Beepers were the in thing.
Ice skating cost $2 a session
Going to a baseball or football game for a family of 4 was less the $50.
Get a McDonald's value meal for $2
Taxes on LI were actually affordable

Re: I remember when....
LA Gear was in style
you could put tape over a part of the cassette to record over it
TV dinners took 40 minutes in the oven
Coffecake Muffins at Tate's were $1.50
Bazooka's were $.01 and then double it price to $.02 ( cut our stash down to half)
The worst punishment our parents could give us was to not to go outside and play.

My first "real job" (with benefits/paid vacation) at NYNEX Mobile (salary $18,200) in LIC where we installed phones in your car. We also sold portable "bag phones" and finally the Motorola Flip phone that sold for $3495.00.

I remember metal subway tokens that cost 80 cents per ride. Then $1. Then $1.10, $1.25, 1.50... and it has been a shitshow ever since...

The tolls were so cheap that there were change baskets to toss your coins in
My parents' VCR had a wired remote control
We used to play games and draw with chalk on our regular old suburban street without any parents watching us.
You could buy an unscrambled cable box out of someone's trunk in the grocery store parking lot
We got Prodigy with our dial up modem, chat rooms (inviting and not inviting certain people), hacking programs, instant messaging became IMing
Crystal Clear Pepsi!
Gimp bracelts/keychains
French rolling the bottom of my jeans
Wearing two or more different colored socks on the same foot
Hypercolor shirts

warp zones in Super Mario Bros
blowing on the Nintendo cartridges
Nintendo power pad for the olympics game and the gun for duck hunt

Getting 'wings' and seeing the cockpit when I was a kid and we flew somewhere.
Just found out from pilot friend that you can still do that if you ask nicely after the flight. She flies for United.

Re: I remember when....
When all we had were rotary dial phones with cords. And then the cord extenders came out but still you could only get as much privacy as far as that cord would go!
And having to type all my reports on a - gasp - typewriter and if I made a mistake I had to use the white out strips and hope I could get it straight. And if I needed a copy I had to use carbon paper!
And if I loved a song I had to wait for it to come on the radio and tape it on a cassette and the beginning and end always got cut off or spoken over.
And if we needed a phone number or service provider we had to get out the white pages or yellow pages and if we needed directions we had to unfold a big old map!
