I'm not looking for a debate over if you are getting it or not - but I'm curious there seems to be a lot of varying opinions and many people say that they ped is not recommending it, others say their peds are very much in favor of it.

So I'm curious - IS your Ped office recommending the H1N1 Shot - I'm looking to see how many offices are recommending it not whether you plan to give it to your children.

TIA!!!!

I clicked the wrong button.

Yes, my ped is an MD. NO, she's not recommending the flu vaccine.

i'll ask at her 6 month appt - but i am not comfy with the idea of her getting the H1N1. i can't really explain why - but if the doctor feels strongly for it - i will default to how they feel.

My ped is an MD an recommending it. Her main concern is not with the vaccine itself, but that many people may already be sick by the time people are able to get vaccinated

DD's ped was not for it. He feels it's too new of a vaccine and wouldn't recommended it.

DH is an MD as well and doesn't want DD to get it either.
I agree.

Thanks!!! What is his reasoning for not giving it? Too new? Not serious enough?

Asked three of the Pediatricans at my office.. all MDs and each and every one said no. Its not recommended but if you want it, its your choice.

PS: I had to go look them up to be sure they were MD's .. what's a DO?

Doctor of Osteopathy

Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)
Images

Osteopathy A doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) is a physician licensed to practice medicine, perform surgery, and prescribe medication.

Information
Like allopathic physicians (or M.D.s), osteopathic physicians complete 4 years of medical school and can choose to practice in any specialty of medicine. However, osteopathic physicians receive an additional 300 - 500 hours in the study of hands-on manual medicine and the body's musculoskeletal system.

Osteopathic medicine is dedicated to treating and healing the patient as a whole, rather than focusing on one system or body part. An osteopathic physician will often use a treatment method called osteopathic manipulative treatment (also called OMT or manipulation) -- a hands-on approach to make sure that the body is moving freely. This free motion ensures that all of your body's natural healing systems are able to work unhindered.

Osteopathic physicians hold to the principle that a patient's history of illness and physical trauma are written into the body's structure. The osteopathic physician's highly developed sense of touch allows the physician to feel (palpate) the patient's "living anatomy" (the flow of fluids, motion and texture of tissues, and structural makeup).

Like M.D.s, osteopathic physicians are licensed at the state level. Osteopathic physicians who wish to specialize may become "board certified" (in much the same manner as M.D.s) by completing a 2- to 6-year residency within the specialty area and passing the board certification exams.

D.O.s practice in all specialties of medicine, ranging from emergency medicine and cardiovascular surgery to psychiatry and geriatrics. A majority of osteopathic doctors use many of the medical and surgical treatments that are used by other medical doctors.

My ped told me I should give it to my DD along with the regular flu shot. I refuse. She will have her regular flu shot on Thursday of next week but I'm not giving her the H1N1 vaccine.

I asked our ped last month (she's an MD) and she didn't give her opinion. All she said was "Let's cross that bridge when we get to it. We have no idea how many doses we'll get, or if we'll even get any."

My other is my Ped said that there wasn't enough information out there about the shot for him to make an educated decision. He said one the good about it is that it actually will protect you against the H1N1 where as other flu shots are not 100%. One bad bad thing her felt about ti was how fast it was made.
