My ped (an MD) recommended the flu shot because it's pretty bad this year but said the H1N1 is something he's recommending for those with compromised immune systems or developmental issues.

I don't get it?

What is the difference if your ped is an MD or a DO? Am I missing something?

My ped is an MD and he recommends it. None of us have gotten anything yet, though DH has to by 11/30.

My ped has never mentioned it but he knows that I do not want to give my kids the flu shot so he probably will not mention this to me.

My Ped is a MD and is not recommending it. When I last saw her (4wks ago) she said it is not CDC approved yet. And once it is CDC approved then they will do their own research before they recommend it to any of their patients.

DDs ped is an MD and is recommending it.

I don't understand why so many peds are not recommending it.

I can understand the live vaccine/nasal spray but the injectable vaccine is just like the regular flu shot just with a different protein and if it had been ready sooner it would have been included in the regular flu shot.

I'm guessing next year's vaccine will include it so anyone who gets the flu shot next year will be getting the swine flu vaccine too.

Only b/c some DOs are more wholistic than others and so some have differing views on vaccines and the flu shot.

I'm so surprised at the responses. My ped recommends it for all of her patients. She's an MD. I'm going to try to get it too, but might not be able to due to the small supply & I'm not high risk (but a teacher).

Re: I see many people saying that their peds are not recommending the H1N1 shot - so I thought I would take a poll

I answered that my ped is an MD is is recommending it. I asked about it being too new and her answer was that every year the flu shot is new too, that the h1n1 is just another strain of flu and is developed the same way as the seasonal flu vaccine and so she def. recommends it. She did point out however that it contains thimerisol, because right now they only have multi-dose vials available so the preservative is necessary. I asked about that too, and she feels that the amount of thimerisol is miminal and is not a risk at all.

I also asked my ped GI doc today. His wife is an immunologist and he said that she strongly recommends it. He said they will both be getting it as well as their 2 sons.

Re: I see many people saying that their peds are not recommending the H1N1 shot - so I thought I would take a poll

you know my answer but i'll post it here for poll purposes. my ped is a MD and is highly recommending it for both kids and dh and I. I was there today (again!!) and they were in the process of ordering the baby shots. They already have the doses for the older kids.

eta: he won't be giving the nasal spray version as it is a live vaccine and he said it can have side effects (feeling flu like symptoms after receiving it).
