I think I have a clogged milk duct...what do I do?
I have a small raised bump near my nipple and it's VERY tender to the touch. Last BF session was painful on that side...
what do I do to relieve it?

Also feed through the pain. You need to get that baby out! If it looks like a pimple on the nipple itself, you can take a sterilized needle and "pop it", then hand express to get it out. Unfortunately, I know how to do this from first hand experience. it is sooo painful

Continue to nurse or pump, warm compresses.
Do not stop feeding. If you develop a fever, you need to call your ob.
Hope it heals quickly.

Yikes, that sux! I got one the size of a golf ball under my armpit all three times and I know it hurts like a mother. I pumped and used hot compresses then used a handheld massager to massage it. It lasted about a week but I'd imagine if you BF you'll probably get rid of it sooner.

In the shower let the hot water run on it, and keep having DC feed off the infected breast first, it should clear up in 2 days, tylenol helped too!

Unfortunately, I know how to do this from first hand experience. it is sooo painful DH actually did this for me the first time I got a clogged duct. I didn't find the process painful...uncomfortable, but it definitely helped.
I also agree with PP, nurse through it...it could actually clear on its own. A couple of times I nursed them out.
Feel better...

Alison- I swear this worked for me every time I've had a clogged duct:
Lay the baby on a bed, then lean over her and nurse her that way. Yes- you will totally look like a cow feeding her calf, but the force of gravity REALLY helps clear the duct rather quickly. I've tried every remedy and this has been the ONLY thing that really fixed it.

Re: I think I have a clogged milk duct...what do I do?
I just went through this yesterday. It is painful! I had a milk blister and a clogged duct. I did what the others rec. Hot shower, used a sterilized needle to pop the blister and then hand expressed. It took a few attempts but it worked. I also nursed through the pain. I found this site helpful: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/nipplebleb.html

Hot compresses. For me, I squeeze it when I'm nursing and it feels better after.
