I think my dog is dying

My dog Buca is peeing and puking all over the place all day long and it's NOT fun when you are trying to sell your house!!!!!! Chat Icon

We have spent over $500 in the past 2 weeks on vet bills and meds for her. Nothing is making a difference. We think she has cancer. Although no one can give us a diagnosis. I think we'll have the vet do a biopsy next week to find out...but honestly, we cannot afford this, and we cannot afford treatment if it is cancer. We'd just make her really comfy and happy...is that cruel? I would put her to sleep if she is in pain though, I don't want her to suffer.

Here are her symptoms....very enlarged lymph nodes, "tumors" in her face and neck that must bother her because she ripped open her skin there and it won't heal now, sneezing blood a lot, and puking and peeing all over the house. I finally smartened up and blocked off the carpeted room, so she is peeing on tile which is easy to clean, but still.......

Any ideas or advice? She is an 8 year old Rottie. She's considered old, since they only live 8-10 years. Chat Icon

Re: I think my dog is dying

Your dog is very sick. You really need to bring her to a vet for observation asap.

As for her throwing up on the floor and ruining a possible sale of your house??/ Well..... sorry, but I would be more worried about the health of my dog.

I would take her to the animal hospital on 59th Street in Manhattan. They have the best vet specialists there.

As for not having the money.... well there is always a way.

We have brought her to vet after vet, no one thinks anything is wrong with her. I am very frustrated and upset, no need to make me feel worse.

i am so sorry you have to deal with such a sick doogie... go to a different vet, i cant offer advice, cause I know how expensive the vet bills can be...hopefully there is something you can do... but it is important to take him to the vet for observation-maybe another vet will figure something out...he must be in so much pain..poor thing!Chat Icon

She sounds miserable the poor thing. If you want to help her, take her to the best vet. If there is nothing that can be done to help her, then the best thing is to have her go in peace Chat Icon

As far as the house is concerned, I am sure it is very frustrating but that would make me very very upset...I wouldn't be able to concentrate knowing my dog was that way. I am sure the poor dog doesn't want to be that way Chat Icon

Re: I think my dog is dying

I'm not sure where you live - but there is an Animal Hospital in Plainview on the South Service Road that is excellent and there is also one on Vet's Highway in Bohemia that is extremely wonderful (they saved Misty's life). It does sound like she has cancer to me also, but you if you take her to one of those two places, they may be able to give you some answers and also make your dog more comfortable.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well....obviously most of us on here feel the same way. I wouldn't leave that vet's office until I had some answers and SOMETHING to make my furbaby feel a little better!!!!

Uh...how long have these "tumors" been on her face???? Geez, the second my babies get a scratch, I immediately have them looked at.....I can't imagine a tumor growing and not having a CT-scan or having an MRI done to get a "real" diagnosis!!! And then begin treatment early on i order for her to having SOME sort of fighting chance!!!

And, I'm sorry....but the LEAST of my worries would be selling my house. If my babies were THAT sick...they would be my priority!

She needs a vet that specializes in oncology immediately. Unfortuanately, I don't know LI that well, so I can't recommend anybody....but I'm sure there are some girls on here that can. And as far as the money is concerned....well, especially with cancer, you have to weigh the options of quality of life vs. treatment. Perhaps if it had been caught earlier, she may have had a shot.....now, I'm not so sure. Pets can be expensive....and to just "give up" on them because of money issues, to me (IMO) is ridiculous. I would get a second and third mortgage on my house to care for my furbabies if I had to. Not just "put them down" b/c it was the easiest and cheapest thing to do. If that's the case, people shouldn't have pets to begin with (again, IMO).

I do wish you luck with your pup....and Chat Icon Chat Icon for having to go through this.

Please bring your dog here...

Long Island Vetrinary Specialists

They will give your dog a thorough examination, and I am sure come up with some kind of diagnosis, I really cannot imagine any vet saying the a dog who is puking, and sneezing blood, and has tumors on his face has nothing wrong with them...YOUR VET has something wrong with HIM!!!!!!Chat Icon

My dog had lymphoma, and I brought him to this pet hospital because they had specialists there to deal with Coppers issues. They gave us all options, and they did have payment plans. I also belive they have a credit card you can get for just this reason.

Also, if you search the internet, there are different organizations that may help you to defray some of the costs of helping your baby.

PLEASE look into all of these option, your babies life IS worth it!

I am choosing to ignore the mean comments, because honestly, unless you've walked in someone else's shoes you have NO idea what their life is like.

Obviously I must have misworded my post, because we are going nuts here trying to get my dog better.

For the people that actually care, I appreciate all of your suggestions and help. I do not live in NY though, so I will have to try to find the best vet I can find here.

Re: I think my dog is dying

wow I can not believe how harsh people are being to you Chat Icon that makes me sad I know where you are coming from and i too would not be able to afford the vet bills and that does not mean you love your pet any less. It sounds to me like your dog is very sick and it might just be her time to go my biggest concern would be if she is in any pain then I would put her down if she was/or he was. if you cant afford it I dont think people should be making you feel more quilty then you probably all ready do just make your dog as comfortable as possible and be there for the dog. hope everything works out Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I think my dog is dying

I have to step in here to defend my sister. I don't think she wanted to feel any worse than she already did. My sister and her husband are wonderful to this dog, I love her too, she's great. =) They have been doing everything they could to make her better. It is not their fault that the vet has not found anything wrong, they have been to quite a few different ones. They have been persistent. They are not upset b/c the dog is disrupting them from selling their house; selling their house is just another major stress in addition to the situation with their dog. When someone is going through a tough time, and you want to offer advice, please word it nicely. Melissa, I really hope Buca gets better soon!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I think my dog is dying

I am so sorry about Buca. I know how you feel to a certain extent - my dog has had a hacking cough for months now. I have spent thousands of $$ in vet bills, and they still can't tell me what's wrong with him. But fortunately he seems fine otherwise so I am not pursuing this any more.

I hope Buca gets better or you can find out what is wrong, or if it is his time that he goes quickly and painlessly.

I feel so bad for all you are going through... I am sure you love your pup as much as anyone else here. Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: If your pup is miserable and terminally ill it is not unkind to let them die in peace vice puking, peeing, snotting up blood, ripping their own skin for endless days.
