I tried stretching DD to all 3 hour feeds yesterday...
..and it sort of backfired. She usually sleeps 8-10 hours straight and last night she woke up after 3 1/2 to eat and then every 2 hours after that until 4:45 and then fortunately went back to sleep until 8. Mama's exhausted. It was like a NB night!
She's 4 months and nurses anywhere from 2-3 hours. I felt like the 2 hour feeds were snacks, so I started to stretch her. She ended up having a 4 hour stretch yesterday because she fell asleep before the 3rd hour. She hadn't slept much all day so I let her nap. But because of that stretch she was short one feeding (we usually do 7 sessions at this point. Yesterday was 6). I did expect that she might wake because of that, but once, not 3 times!
I'm going to give it another shot because I think it was the 4 hour stretch and losing one feeding that was the problem (OR it could be the dreaded 4 mth wakeful period), but if it keeps up, I'll go back to on demand. I would love to get her on a daytime schedule, but I think I like my sleep a little more!

Sorry it backfired on you! At 4 months I was feeding on demand also and it was tough not having a set schedule. I think we were finally able to get to 3 hour stretches at about 6 months old. Good luck!

I tried this and had similar results. I think babies just need a certain amount of food, and if they don't get it during the day, they'll have to get it at night. My DD is a month older than yours, and still eats every two hours like clockwork.
It's hard to schedule feedings with you're BFing. Doing it on demand is hard, but it will help both of you get some rest at night!

I would bet anything that her waking 3times was NOT because you stretched her feedings. I think it was a fluke- maybe you ate something yesterday that was bothering her belly, she had gas, or numerous other reasons.
try again! she will start taking in more!

I agree, I started stretching DS to 3 hours at @ 2 months and he did great with it. Started STTN @ 10 weeks. At 4 months he started waking a lot at night- so I think that's what you might be dealing with now. Good luck!
