I want to buy a car within the next several months - looking for

a small crossover/SUV with 4 wheel drive. The 4 wheel drive is a must.

oh AND it must have a keypad on the door as an option...I'm tired of locking myself out of my car alllll the time!!! Chat Icon

Anyone have any recommendations?

If I can get a leftover 2007, I would really like to consider the hybrids.

You can definitely get a 2007.

I was going to suggest the Honda CRV until the keypad thing. I have one that I have had for a while and I love it.

Let me see what else I can think of.

ETA: I like the Toyota Highlander hybrid (not sure about the key pad). I think the Ford Escape Hybrid has a keypad. Most Ford's do right?

We just bought a Hyundai Tuscon and love it. It doesn't have a keypad though. I don't think many cards offer those. The new thing is keyless start, I looked at a Murano that had it. You still need this button thingy that you press while you press the buttons on the door and ignition.

I've only seen the keyless entries on Fords and Mercurys. How about a Ford Escape?

A lot of new cars use On Star to unlock your car or bluetooth technology (you can't lock your car with the keys inside.) Just something to consider other than an exterior keypad.

I was going to suggest the CR-V also. Mine doesn't have the keypad, but if the door is open and the key is still in the ignition, the car starts to "ding", letting you know. It helped me a few times. Chat Icon

I would suggest (know people who have these or have had one myself):

Jeep Liberty
Jeep Cherokee
Nissan Murano
Ford Edge
Dodge Caliber (we're looking into this car for DH)

I just got the Honda CR-V a couple of months ago and LOVE it! Although, it does not have a keypad, like a pp said, it dings (very loudly and annoying I might add) if you leave the key in the ignition.

My jeeps never had keypads, but the good thing about them is that even if you leave your key in the ignition it doesn't lock on you. It only locks all doors after you drive over 8mph.

All GM cars come equipped with On-Star (most free for the first year) and you can get your car unlocked that way.

Nissan has a new crossover - the Rogue. It looks nice on the website, but there is no pricing listed.

We need to get a new car too! I need to trade my two door in for a small suv or a 4 door sedan.

ETA: I went to Nissan yesterday and the Rogues come out at the end of the month and will start in the 20's. The Rogue is slightly smaller than the Santa Fe but bigger than the Honda CR-V.

My doors close very easily - car is OLD. The keys are usually on my front seat and boom - door slams.

It's not an irresponsibility problem, its the car.

it's pretty much impossible on a new car- I need my key fob thing to lock the doors- they don't lock automatically

you will be ok

I have a Subaru Forester and I love it. I test drove the CRV and the RAV4 but liked the Forester the best. It has AWD, but not an outside keypad.
