"I want to come & stay with you after the baby is born...(mini-vent)

...but I do not want to sleep on your couch in the room where your dogs sleep. Can I stay inthe nursery?"

Um no...either it is on the pull out bed in the LR or, you cannot stay here....it is not like I have the accomodations of the friggin Helmsley palace.

OK vent over

After my neice was born, my MIL flew up to see the baby and SIL. SIL and BIL have 4 cats, they clean, but cat hair can permeate. MIL is allergic and claims she will be fine...nope. She made them all go to BIL's parents house in Delaware (they live in Baltimore) for 3 days with a newborn b/c she didn't want to stay there.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: When WE went to go stay with BIL and SIL after my neice was born we did stay in the nursery since they had a two bedroom house and the baby was in their room. But they offered, we brought our air mattress too.

Tell her she can stay in the nursery but the baby is staying in your room...
If it is right after the baby is born odds are you may not even have it in its crib right away anyway.
Honestly the couch in some ways is worse because you can't get away from her or walk the house if you need too compared to in the nursery with the door shut..

This is the case, but the problem is the crib will be in there & there is not even enough room for me to put an aerobed on the floor without removing some of the furniture.

Just give her a sleeping bag then, if that's where she wants to sleep she should be sucking it up. It sounds to me like she may just want privacy.

I just don't get it!

Do people come with a brain or was it an option at birth (option not elected by the parents obvioulsy in this case!!)?

That's a good idea.

And the reality is she hates my dogs, but she knows I am not putting them in the nursery so she is S.O.L. there.

My mother came to stay for a few days when DD came home from the hospital. DH slept on the couch in the basement and my mother slept in the bed with me so she could "help" with the baby. Chat Icon

Her help consisted of, me getting up and going downstairs to heat the bottle...me changing the baby, and her feeding the baby. When baby was done eating...me taking the bottle back downstair to the kitchen. Me putting the baby back in the PNP Chat Icon

So basically...DH got 3 days of rest, while I did all the work and mother fed the baby Chat Icon

Although...I love my mother dearly, she wasn't much of a "help" those few days Chat Icon

The only other room is the kitchen (our house is smaller than most apartmentsChat Icon I have no problem letting them sleep in there at night, but I think she wants the nursery b/c she knows we are not letting the dogs in there at allChat Icon

Make a stupid excuse about not wanting any "germs" in the nursery. I dunno, it was all I could think of.
