I want to get rid of the bottle this weekend.. advice please

I have tried before with my DD but she hates her milk in a sippy. do I just take it away completely and see how she does? do I try to warm it up before putting it in the sippy? any advice is appreciated.

TIA

ETA- DD is 14.5 months. its getting late right?

DS wouldn't drink milk out of a sippy. I finally took the bottle away cold turkey. The ped said to just make sure he got calcium from other sources until he started drinking milk again. It only lasted a few days - I would offer him milk every day and then a few days in he started drinking it.
I made sure he had yogurt and cheese in the meantime.
Good Luck!!

Has she been drinking water or juice in a sippy? Have you tried a straw cup if she hates the sippy? DS really took to the straw cup once he understood how to get liquids out, but he didn't really like sippy cups. If you haven't given her other beverages in a sippy, I would start with that. Then move on to milk. With DS, I took away an afternoon bottle first, gave him a week to get used to that, then gave up the morning bottle. After he had been using cups for those two bottles for a couple days, he started rejecting his nighttime bottle.

Overall, he was pretty easy to switch. I think it took me a little less than a month, so he was off bottles at 13 months. Some do it cold turkey with good results, though in DSs case, I just felt he wouldn't cope as well with a sudden change--I think he does much better with gradual changes.

And no, 14 months isn't so late. I know a couple people with kids close to 2 years who still have some bottles.

Crystal.. I took the daytime bottles away from Kristina months ago, and she fought me hardcore in the beginning with milk in her sippy.... but guess what. She slowly came to realize that mommy wasn't backing down!

She now takes her sippy (they are all straw sippies) with milk NO PROBLEM.

She may give you issues in the beginning, but once she realizes that you aren't caving, she'll drink. Just make sure that you supplement her fat intake with whole milk cheese and yogurt (yobaby).

Yes she has been drinking water and juice from her sippy cup since she has been 11 months old. she just HATES milk in it.

Lisa- thats why I was thinking I should do it cold turkey. she knows if she can get one over on me. Chat Icon is Kristina completely off now?

Chat Icon Chat Icon I know as much as I want her to be off it makes me so upset to think about it. I just dont want to wait too long because I know it will be harder when she gets older.

I'm in the same boat - we have gotten him onto sippy cups during the day but he wants the bottle at night. I tried the other night and he drank a few ounces in the sippy but then said no. It's going to be a long weekend! DS is 14.5 mths also.

By teh way, when we got him to move to sippy's during the day, we told the daycare to do it cold turkey. He refused a bit of milk on the first & second day and then the third day refused all milk. Fourth day he gave in.

Re: I want to get rid of the bottle this weekend.. advice please

I dont think its late- i did it right around that time. The trick is cold turkey and make sure you tell anyone who could be wathching her not to give her the bottle - my boys havent been on the bottle since 15 months my grandma watched them the other day and gave them a bottle ---- they are 22 months now... LOL Luckily the transition went well for both of my twin boys at that stage.
If she is not too interested in the sippy just make a big deal about it like its more of a toy until she gets the hang of it you will be fine. Good luck.
