Re: Weaning off the bottle...need advice
i'm starting to do the same. i've been giving her water in a straw cup for a couple of months now.. she's getting the hang of it, so i'll switch milk into them soon too.

Re: Weaning off the bottle...need advice
update oh my goodness what a disaster.
a complete tantrum for the bottle.
we tried giving her a sippy of milk in the morning, figuring she would be the most thirsty then and would drink from it. NOPE!!!
so we caved in a gave her the bottle. anyone have a more systematic way of weaning off the bottle???

I would love advice on this too! He is 14 months and still on the bottle...I hate it! He can drink out of a sippy but hates it...

Re: Weaning off the bottle...need advice
my DD LOOOVED her bottles (she is 2 and would still drink from them if I let her). So we had a bottle tossing ceremony.
I took out a garbage bag, Put her up on the counter and asked her to throw away all the bottles.
She did, she emptied the cabinet and as she did it I kept saying - what a BIG girl, bottles are for babies...yadi, yadi, yadi.
She hasn't asked me for a bottle since!!!

We did it by transitioning to the Nuby sippy cups that have a soft spout that is more like the bottle nipple, then testing out the regular sippy every now and then until he was finally okay with it.

Re: Weaning off the bottle...need advice
We did kind of cold turkey. She was already comfortable with water out of the straw cups by the time we did it and the first day and maybe second was tough. You have to try again and don't cave. Ellie totally boycotted the sippy day one and I got really upset and caved and then when we tried again I stayed strong. She drank hardly any milk the first day but by day two she took about half. I just left it out for her for a really long time and kept asking her. We did both the am and pm at the same time so that she got used to nothing but sippies during the day. I was afraid to cut night time as well. But now we're onto nightime and it's actually easier than the first time. I guess she's over the initial shock. Good luck!
