I was reading a cruise board and look what someone wrote...
"The last thing I'm going to say on this subject is on our last cruise someone brought a baby and some people we met were a few cabins down from them and they said it was horrible listening to a poor little baby cry constantly. I personally think infants are just too small to be bringing on cruises because they can't help crying and it really, REALLY dissrupts other passangers and upsets adults trying to have a peaceful vacation. I stronlgy feel bringing babies on cruiseships is a dissrespect to others. That's all I'll say."
Someone had asked advice on which cruiseline was the best for cruising with a baby.

I don't necessarily disagree with this... an infant and a baby that is 6 months or whatever is a big difference.... My baby was colicky and I would NEVER have brought her on a cruise.

Re: I was reading a cruise board and look what someone wrote...
There are some cruiselines that don't allow babies under 6 months.
If they don't like babies on board then they should stick with those cruiselines.

Re: I was reading a cruise board and look what someone wrote...
I could understand if it was an adults only line or one that doesn't cater much to families. But if the poster was on a ship that has things like kiddie pools, teen discos, video arcade, etc. they have to expect families, including those with babies on board.
And on my honeymoon cruise, the teens running around goofing off all the time were way more disruptive than the 2 toddlers in the cabin next to ours, IMO.
Some people just don't like being around kids. Don't let them ruin your plans, you're paying just as much, if not more, than they are.

Re: I was reading a cruise board and look what someone wrote...
I love cruising with my little guy, but would not do it before about nine months of age. When we went, he cried sometimes before bed for a little bit but bedtime was early so who was he keeping up??? More likely the people running through the halls were keeping him up.

Re: I was reading a cruise board and look what someone wrote...
We brought Brendan on a cruise when he was 6 months old and he was SOOO good. I can understand how people don't want to hear a crying baby though. I wouldn't have brought him if I thought he was going to cry all the time. Honestly though, we've had rooms of teenagers and drunk people next to us who were WAY more disruptive.

IMO, a crying baby could be heard not only on a cruise ship, but in a hotel/motel room too! I wonder if that poster had ever stayed in a hotel room before, they could have heard crying babies then too!!
And I agree, kids, teens & adults could all be noisy too!

So what are the mommies of children under 6 months supposed to do? Not bring their kids anywhere??? I think this review was written by someone who does not have kids or does not like them.
If the cruise ship caters to kids then they have the right to be there no matter what the age is. And I agree with what the others said. That the teenagers are more disruptive than anything else.
Where did you read this? On which website? I would soooooooo love to respond to this person...

eta. we are going on a cruise in July when DS will be 13 months. Let me here just one complaint about my son. I will flip my lid! Babies are babies and kids are kids. Babies cry, yes we all know that. So why doesn't this person just stuff a sock in it...

Re: I was reading a cruise board and look what someone wrote...
I personally think children should go on cruises that are geared toward families, not necessarily just those that allow infants and yes I'm a mother saying that. It's easier on everyone if there are other moms, dads, and kids having the same dilemmas you might be having with your baby. I can definitely see why people would get annoyed if they had to listen to a baby crying for most of their trip. That would get on my nerves too. I think that vacation companies really need to make family vacations readily available to a different number of places so moms and dads have a lot to choose from.

Re: I was reading a cruise board and look what someone wrote...
I have to ask - what it cruisecritic.com?
I love that site (you get some great info), but some of those people are intense in their opinions on EVERYTHING. I have seen the most heated discussions about everything under the sun that is cruise-related.
In this case - honestly, I have never had a crying baby in the cabin next to me, so I can't really comment. Although I will say comparing it to a hotel isn't 100% accurate. Very rarely is a hotel 100% booked - generally a room change can be made. Cruise lines rarely, if ever, have free rooms - so you're stuck with the neighbors you get! Luckily on 9 cruises, can't complain so far!!

I agree! So true!
Let's keep all children under 6 months old locked up in the house that way all the adults in this world could have a peaceful vacation...
Babies are babies and yes i've been on vacations where i've heard babies crying and yes it can sound annoying but you know what if that family paid for the cruise then they have every right to be there. And it's not just babies that cry. Toddlers cry, kids cry.
If it's a ship that is not geared towards families then it would be annoying if a family were there with crying kids. But if it's a family fun ship then they have the right to be there...

most, if not all, cruiselines do not allow passengers under 6 months. Some extend that to 12-18 months, based on the itinerary. I know on our honeymoon cruise to Tahiti, 18 months was the minimum age.

And some cruiselines do allow children under 6 months. I've seen them on 2 of the 3 cruises we've been on.

good to know! I know Princess requires 6 months, which I thought was the standard.
ETA: Now you've got me intrigued, so I had to look it up - Carnival accepts infants at 4 months.

Re: I was reading a cruise board and look what someone wrote...
There will always be differences in opinion on topics like these.
Are there any vacations that ban teenagers? LAst year we were in Hershey, and there was some school event at our hotel and little did we know, that there were over 100 pre-teens in our hotel, many of which were on our floor, and they were up ALLLL NITE enjoying themselves.
We've all been there, I wasnt too angry, since I really just tried to feel for them and remember being that age and staying out with friends (there were adult chaperones around too, but not much help ) but it was really far beyond even being disrespectful.
Everyone should be entitled to enjoy themselves regardless of age, family situation etc. but there should be a level of respect given to those around you. and we should KNOW what to expect from all age groups. unfortunately, not everyone has the same level as respect as others.
But babies/infants/toddlers, we have to understand that they are unpredictable to even their own parents. Some people (like the person who wrote that) need to be understanding of moms and dads, and not so judgemental.

Re: I was reading a cruise board and look what someone wrote...
Actually that is one of the nicer comments I have seen on Cruisecritic. Some of the people there disgust me with their comments - I often see people say it is THEIR vacation and anyone who brings children distroys their vacation b/c they left their children home so they shouldn't have to put up with yours. Sorry my feeling is then go to a couples (adults) only place.
If it was that site it is so helpful - BUT there are so many creepy people on there.
I am sorry - I can tell you most people don't feel that way - I love to see the cute babies on my past cruises - and I see lots of people and staff playing and having fun watching the adorable kids.
Etd to add - most of the drunk adults are MUCH more of a problem then a baby who cries.
